Time is a valuable resource, and we need it to finish our jobs and lead a good life. However, about 48% of Americans say they do not have the necessary time to do whatever they want. With only 24 hours available a day (during which you also have to sleep at least 7), their time management concerns are understandable.

That being said, you should also know that time is money – and with each moment you lose, you miss your opportunity for more growth. This is why you need to use your time as efficiently as possible, increasing your chances of success. In this article, you can learn how to use your time to the fullest so that you may reach your true potential.

How to Manage Your Time Efficiently

When it comes to efficient time management, here are some techniques that you can use:

Set a Goal

To manage your time correctly, you must know exactly where you are heading. By setting a goal, you will know what you have to do. Set long-term and short-term objectives alike so that you are always on the right track. This technique will also help you understand the tasks that should be put first.

Prioritize Correctly

Speaking of prioritization, assessing what needs to be done first is also important. You should focus on the most significant tasks first, reducing the chances of ‘roadblocks’ and errors. Moreover, by finishing the most crucial assignments sooner, you can get a sense of accomplishment that will motivate you to do your other tasks.

Use Time-Management Techniques

Time-management techniques can help you be more productive by giving your brain the break that it needs. For example, the Pomodoro technique has been used to help people stay productive while giving them the necessary breaks. You can choose the interval as you wish – say, 5-minute breaks every 30 minutes. It’s important to take that break because if you don’t, you may just end up slowing down. Taking a break every so often can help you be more productive – that is, as long as you stick to a schedule.

Use Automation

When possible, you should try to automate your workflow. Nowadays, there are plenty of tools that can help you reduce tedious tasks, such as email sending, report calculation, and more. Even though you can do them yourself, there’s no sense in wasting your time, especially when these assignments are time-consuming. By adding automation to the mix, you can give yourself more time to focus on more critical tasks.

Use Internet Access Control Tools

How often have you found yourself scrolling over social media or other platforms whenever you have other things to do? It happens to the best of us. Your brain needs breaks now and again, and without even realizing it, you find yourself scrolling without purpose. A good way to prevent this from happening is to use Internet access control tools. This will keep you from accessing certain websites over a specific timeframe so that you don’t procrastinate.

Activities to Make Your Time Count

Some people have too little time that they need to manage, whereas others can have too much time. Each hour of your life is precious, so if you have extra time between jobs that you want to put to good use, here are a few tips:

Get Some Side Hustles

Side hustles can bring some extra income into your pocket. Think about a hobby you’re good at that can help solve someone else’s issue. Or perhaps you can develop a way to get some passive income, which is like free money once you’ve spent enough time on research. Start a real estate hustle or try to get some money through affiliate marketing. This can help bring some extra revenue in the long run.

Volunteer

Money is not the only thing of value that you can gain over time. Knowledge and helping others is just as important. If you have extra time on your hands, consider volunteering. You may not get much money from it (if any), but it will give you something extra to add to your resume.

Invest Your Extra Money

Investing your money can also be a good way to make the most of your time. Learn about potential stocks and investments and put your extra cash there. If you are not a stock person, you can try something simple like a savings account that will build up interest over the years.

The Bottom Line

Time passes before you even know it, and all you’re left with are the memories and achievements you’ve made throughout the years. This is why you should make the most out of it. The right move at the right time can help bring more income your way.

Are you guilty of looking up embarrassing stuff on the Internet? There’s no need to feel ashamed because almost everyone is guilty of doing this.

But everyone searching for embarrassing stuff online doesn’t mean you want your search and browsing history to be made public. This is one of those things you would want to keep private. Right? This is where VPNs come to the rescue because they are incredibly effective in hiding browser and search history.

While many people are turning to VPNs, do you know what is a VPN connection? It is software that secures your access to the Internet by establishing a private and protected connection. Even if you are accessing the web while connected to a public Wi-Fi network, your security, and privacy are protected. A VPN hides the IP address, makes your browsing private, and stops your ISP from tracking you.

If you have doubts about whether VPNs are truly of assistance when it comes to keeping your browsing history a secret, continue scrolling to clear your doubts.

Difference Between Browsing History and Search History

Browsing history refers to a record of pages and websites visited by users during an Internet session, which includes titles, URLs, and timestamps of visited pages. Browsing history makes it convenient for users to revisit the websites they have accessed previously and allows browsers to suggest relevant content according to the users’ past behavior.

On the other hand, search history refers to specific search queries entered by users into search engines, such as Google, Bing, and Yahoo. It helps search engines tailor future search suggestions and customize the search results according to the user’s previous searches and interests.

How Do VPNs Hide Your Browsing History?

When browsing with a VPN, your Internet traffic will be encrypted and routed via a secure server. A secure connection is established between the server and your device, which is encrypted.

Once you are connected to VPN, all your Internet-related activities, including downloads, web browsing, and uploads, pass via the encrypted tunnel and reach the remote VPN server. Here, the server acts as an intermediary to send requests to the destination websites and receive the requested content. Hence, it appears that the VPN server is accessing the sites and not your device.

VPNs hide the real location and IP address, so websites only see the IP address of the VPN server and not your actual IP address. Due to this, your security and privacy are enhanced, and your ISP is prevented from tracking your browsing activities. Also, it lets you access geo-blocked or censored content outside your region.

Overall, VPNs help to hide your browsing history from your ISP, router, employer, and Google.

Do VPNs Hide Your Search History?

It is essential to note here that VPNs cannot hide your history from search engines like Google. If you are browsing the web while logged into your Google account and not using Incognito mode, Google will be able to track your searches to your account.

However, it is possible to minimize the trace between yourself and your history. This can be done by searching in a private browsing mode. Also, you must not be logged into your account during your searches.

As for VPN’s role, it hides your IP address and makes it much harder for anyone trying to connect your search history with your identity.

Also, since search history is stored locally, anyone accessing your computer can see what you have searched. Hence, to effectively hide your search history, the best solution is to clear your search history manually.

Additional Tips to Hide Your Browsing History

Although VPNs help hide your browsing history, it doesn’t do a foolproof job. It is better to take matters into your own hands. Some helpful tips are:

  • Browse privately, such as Google’s incognito mode, to prevent your browser from remembering your sessions. This is one of the best ways to hide your browsing and search history from your roommate if you share the same computer.
  • Manually delete your search and browsing history to cover your tracks.
  • You can opt for privacy-focused search engines, such as Tor or DuckDuckGo.
  • Remove local logs, such as cookies, to make it harder for search engines and websites to identify you.

The Bottom Line

In summation, VPNs can hide search and browsing history from search engines, employers, and your ISP. It encrypts your Internet connection and makes sure your privacy remains intact. Also, if you use premium VPN services, it would mean your browsing history will not be logged with them either. So, you can browse the web anonymously.

Generative AI tools like ChatGPT have taken the world by storm, challenging our preconceived notions of what AI is capable of and introducing a bevy of new options for businesses to save time, save money, and become more innovative. A few simple experiments can help you see just how much potential there is for these types of tools – but you’ll also be able to see where these tools fall flat.

Thankfully, you can mitigate the worst issues with generative AI and get more value out of these tools by practicing more effective prompt engineering. How do you do it?

The Problems with Generative AI

Casual users may not notice any immediate problems with generative AI, but there are some major issues working underneath the surface. Generative AI tools are extremely predictable and formulaic, relying on repetitive sentence structures and lacking any discernible personality. They can’t give original opinions or offer original ideas, and they’ve been known to give factually incorrect information. On top of that, they don’t have real-time access to the web, so they’re practically useless for generating content on recent developments.

Most of these issues can be addressed through better prompt engineering.

What Is Prompt Engineering?

Prompt engineering with generative AI is the practice of creating better prompts for generative AI tools to work with. Better positioning, better phrasing, and more thoughtful follow-ups can all lead to more accurate and useful generated content.

How to Practice Better Prompt Engineering With AI

How do you do this?

Increase specificity.

One of the easiest steps you can take is increasing specificity. The clearer and more specific your commands are, the better your generated content will conform to your needs. For example, instead of asking for a “tweet announcing a new product,” ask for a “50-character tweet meant to generate excitement for a new type of wall-mounted bookshelf that’s easy to install.”

Provide context.

Context is key. It’s not enough to write a prompt that explains what you want to create; you should also explain why you want to create that content. For example, are you motivating someone to make a purchase? Are you trying to persuade them? Do you want to make people feel a certain emotion when reading this? What is your goal?

Use strategic phrasing.

Your choice of phrasing and your specific words can make a big impact on the content that’s eventually generated. Be mindful of the language you’re using, and be willing to rephrase your prompt to elicit a different response.

Give examples.

Instead of expecting the generative AI tool to understand exactly what you want, feed it examples of what you’d like to see. The more examples you give, the more likely it is to hit the mark.

Use constraints to force ideal generation.

Sometimes, you can milk better content out of a generative AI tool by giving it some functional constraints. For example, you can force it to create content with a specific word count or limited vocabulary.

Obtain alternatives.

Ask to see two or three different variations for your initial prompt. ChatGPT and similar tools can provide you with a stunning variety of alternatives, even without changing or adding to your initial prompt.

Jailbreak when necessary.

There are a variety of strategies for “jailbreaking” ChatGPT and other generative AI tools – in other words, forcing the AI tool to operate outside of its normal constraints. Sometimes, this can help you prod the tool to provide a perspective or phrasing it wouldn’t ordinarily consider.

Give feedback.

After your first prompt, your AI tool of choice will generate some content for you to review. If you’re not happy with that content, or if you think it can be better, provide feedback. Telling the tool you want something longer, shorter, more exciting, less condescending, or anything else will prompt the tool to make another attempt. That’s not always a guarantee of success, but it’s worth trying.

Experiment.

Be willing to experiment. Like with any skill, you’ll become a better prompt engineer with practice and real-time feedback. When you get good or bad responses, ask yourself why and apply those lessons to your future prompts.

Keep learning.

Commit to ongoing learning, as generative AI tools are constantly evolving. Even if you master the art of prompt engineering today, your skills will quickly become obsolete if you don’t evolve with them.

We are all relatively new to generative AI tools, and prompt engineering is a fundamentally new concept. These fundamentals are just the beginning of what will probably shape up to be an entire career field. The sooner you gain mastery over the basics of prompt engineering, the better you can harness these tools to your advantage, in whatever context you deem fit.

Alphabet Inc., the parent company of Google, has undoubtedly achieved remarkable success in the business world. With products like Google search, Android, Chrome, and YouTube, Alphabet has amassed billions of monthly users and generated substantial revenue. However, as the digital advertising market matures and competition intensifies, Alphabet faces the challenge of finding new sources of growth and maintaining its position as a technological leader. This article delves into Alphabet’s diversification efforts and explores the future prospects of the company beyond Google search.

Google search has been the cornerstone of Alphabet’s revenue stream, with online ads contributing a significant portion of its earnings. Since its inception, Google’s search business has experienced phenomenal growth, thanks to its ability to provide targeted advertising to businesses and offer users relevant search results. However, the digital advertising landscape is evolving, and Google faces various challenges to sustain its dominance.

With the increasing share of total ad spending shifting to online platforms, businesses now have smaller non-digital ad budgets to allocate. This change, combined with the fact that trustbusters consider Google’s market share too high, poses a challenge to Google’s ad revenue growth. Insider Intelligence predicts that global sales of digital ads will increase by 10% or less annually in the coming years, compared to the 20% growth rate seen in the past decade.

The way people search for information is also evolving. While Google remains a popular choice for product searches, many users, particularly teenagers and young adults, now seek recommendations on social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram. This shift in search behavior raises questions about Google’s ability to capture these “search-nevers” and monetize their queries effectively.

Another significant development in the search landscape is the emergence of generative artificial intelligence (AI). Companies like OpenAI are creating AI models, such as ChatGPT, that can provide human-like responses to user queries. Google recognizes the potential of AI and has launched its own chatbot, Bard, to compete in this space. However, while generative AI holds promise, monetizing these AI-driven products remains a challenge for Google.

To mitigate the risks associated with its reliance on Google search, Alphabet has embarked on diversification efforts, exploring new avenues for growth. These initiatives span various industries, including healthcare, finance, and cloud-based business software.

Alphabet’s “Other Bets” segment comprises ventures beyond Google, including moonshot projects like self-driving cars and life-extending medicine. Despite significant investments, these ventures have struggled to generate substantial revenues, resulting in cumulative operating losses of $24 billion between 2018 and 2022. The challenge lies in finding industries large enough to make a material impact on Alphabet’s top line while offering a favorable return on investment.

Alphabet has made forays into the healthcare and finance sectors but has faced difficulties in achieving significant breakthroughs. Its health subsidiaries, Calico and Verily, have yet to produce tangible results despite substantial investments. In finance, while Google offers a digital wallet and has investments in peer-to-peer lending and price-comparison sites, these efforts pale in comparison to Apple’s and Microsoft’s more ambitious financial services offerings. Alphabet’s focus in these areas primarily revolves around enhancing its ads business through user purchase tracking.

A major area of diversification for Alphabet is its push into cloud-based, AI-boosted business software. Google Cloud aims to compete with industry leaders like Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft Azure. By offering customers competitive deals and leveraging its expertise in AI and consumer-based products, Google Cloud has achieved sales growth of 40% annually. However, competing against established players and overcoming Google’s lack of experience in the business-to-business market presents significant challenges.

Riding on the success of its core business, Alphabet is now focusing on improving margins and increasing returns for its investors. This approach involves gradually integrating AI features into existing products, optimizing expenses, and streamlining its organizational structure.

Alphabet has faced criticism from investors regarding lower price-to-earnings ratios compared to competitors like Apple and Microsoft. To address these concerns, Alphabet aims to improve its overall margins. This involves optimizing its workforce and expenses to achieve greater cost efficiency.

Alphabet has taken steps to streamline its operations and consolidate its AI labs to enhance efficiency and leverage its AI computing power effectively. By merging DeepMind and Google Brain, Alphabet aims to maximize the potential of its AI capabilities. Additionally, the appointment of Ruth Porat as president and chief investment officer demonstrates a commitment to effective capital allocation.

Under the leadership of CEO Sundar Pichai, Alphabet adopts an incrementalist approach rather than pursuing radical reinvention. Pichai emphasizes “doing more with constraints,” gradually introducing AI features, and focusing on cost discipline. This pragmatic strategy allows Alphabet to navigate challenges while maintaining profitability.

Alphabet’s future lies in its ability to leverage AI and navigate the evolving technological landscape. While the dominance of Google search may be challenged, Alphabet’s engineering prowess and deep pockets position it well to confront emerging technologies and consumer behaviors.

As AI, particularly generative AI, matures, Alphabet must find innovative ways to monetize these technologies. Google’s search-ad business model may need to evolve, as a chat with an AI assistant should feel natural and free from excessive ads and links. Balancing user experience and revenue generation will be critical for Alphabet’s success in this space.

Alphabet’s diversification efforts in healthcare, finance, and cloud-based business software present opportunities for growth. With continued investments and strategic partnerships, Alphabet can position itself as a formidable player in these markets. However, it must navigate the challenges posed by established competitors and its limited experience in certain industries.

To maintain its position as a technological leader, Alphabet must strike a balance between fostering a startup culture that encourages innovation and implementing greater discipline and efficiency. As evidenced by past failures and the departure of key researchers, Alphabet must reinvigorate its commercial focus and ensure that its products reach their full market potential.

As Alphabet celebrates its 25th anniversary, the company faces both challenges and opportunities. While Google search remains a dominant force, Alphabet’s future success will depend on its ability to diversify and embrace emerging technologies. By capitalizing on AI, optimizing its operations, and pursuing strategic growth in various industries, Alphabet can continue to thrive and maintain its position as a leading player in the tech industry.

In today’s fast-paced digital world, where immediate results are the norm, people often crave instant gratification. Whether it’s swiping right for a match, receiving packages within two days, or binge-watching TV series, we’ve grown accustomed to quick outcomes. However, in the realm of SEO (Search Engine Optimization), it’s essential to recognize that it operates more like the slow-food movement in a fast-food world. SEO is a long-term strategy that demands patience and persistence. In this article, we’ll delve into the timeframe for SEO results, the factors influencing the speed of outcomes, and tactics to hasten the process.

Before exploring the timeframe for SEO results, let’s first clarify what we mean by “results.” When engaging in an SEO program, it’s crucial to establish specific goals outlining what you want to achieve. While generating revenue may be one of the objectives, one universal metric defines SEO success: organic traffic. Organic traffic refers to visitors who find your website through search engine results, without paid advertising. It serves as a reliable indicator of your SEO efforts’ effectiveness.

Now, let’s delve into the pressing question: How long does it take to see SEO results? The timeframe for SEO results can vary significantly based on several factors. However, in most cases, it takes several months to a year to witness measurable outcomes. This consensus is supported by Google, which has shared a similar timeframe in an SEO-related video. Research from Ahrefs, a prominent SEO tool, also aligns with this general timeframe.

For instance, an ecommerce furniture business experienced a notable decline in search rankings and traffic after launching a redesigned website. After analyzing the situation, they discovered that a bloated index was the primary culprit. Implementing recommendations yielded the following results:

  • 56 priority key phrases regained their positions on Page 1 after two months.
  • Within three months, the client’s website witnessed a return to its previous traffic levels.

Similarly, a nationwide drug-screening company sought an SEO agency’s assistance to improve its underperforming website. The suggested improvements included on-page optimization, technical SEO enhancements, user experience upgrades, and content enhancements. After adopting these changes, the results were impressive:

  • Within six months, the website experienced a staggering 166% increase in traffic compared to the same period two years prior.

These examples underscore the varied timelines for SEO results. Some businesses achieved significant improvements within a few months, while others required more time to see desired outcomes. The timeline depends on multiple factors, which we will now explore further.

One crucial aspect impacting the timeframe for SEO results is your actions. It’s essential to note that the clock starts ticking once you implement your SEO program, not when you hire someone or formulate strategies. Many businesses have failed to achieve desired results even after enlisting SEO experts due to their inability to execute recommendations. This may occur due to various reasons, such as a lack of SEO “buy-in” within the organization or technical challenges necessitating IT intervention. Every month spent without implementing SEO strategies delays the appearance of results.

The condition of your website also plays a significant role in the time it takes to achieve SEO results. If your website has numerous technical issues, addressing them and improving overall performance will naturally take longer. Additionally, if your website has previously faced a manual action from Google or was negatively impacted by a Google core update, regaining favorable rankings will require more effort and time. Similarly, a new domain typically takes longer to yield results compared to a more established site. Nevertheless, quick fixes, though rare, can expedite the process. For instance, resolving a robots.txt file unintentionally blocking search engines’ access to the site can lead to swift SEO results.

Competitive factors also influence the timeframe for SEO results. SEO efforts should aim to surpass competitors rather than merely focusing on algorithms. The level of competition can vary depending on the industry or niche you operate in. Competitors with more resources or established positions may have an advantage in terms of speed. Nonetheless, all hope is not lost in such situations. Staying agile and creative can help you overcome resource disadvantages. In certain industries, especially those related to sensitive topics like health or finance, Google holds websites to higher standards, necessitating more effort to compete effectively. Additionally, aiming for top rankings for high-value keywords can take longer due to increased competition.

Consider obtaining an in-depth, technical SEO audit for your website. Such an audit provides valuable insights into areas that require improvement and offers guidance on beating the competition. It pinpoints specific actions that will have the most significant impact on your website’s performance. By prioritizing these recommendations, you can focus your efforts on actions that yield substantial results.

Enlisting the help of expert SEO consultants or agencies can significantly expedite your SEO journey. These professionals possess industry expertise and experience, allowing them to guide you through the complexities of SEO. Their insights and strategies can help you implement an effective SEO program and navigate the search landscape more efficiently. Expert guidance can make all the difference in achieving faster and more impactful SEO results.

It’s essential to bear in mind that the initial SEO results you observe within several months to a year are not necessarily the best you will ever achieve. SEO is an ongoing process that necessitates continuous optimization and adaptation. As you refine your strategies, you can anticipate better results over time. However, this requires a robust SEO strategy that evolves with the changing search landscape.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs):

Q: How long does it take to see SEO results? A: The timeframe for SEO results can vary, but it generally takes several months to a year to witness measurable outcomes.

Q: What is the most critical metric to measure SEO success? A: Organic traffic, which refers to visitors finding your website through search engine results without paid advertising, is the most crucial metric for measuring SEO success.

Q: Can I achieve faster SEO results? A: While it’s challenging to achieve results faster than the general timeframe, there are strategies you can employ to expedite the SEO process. This includes getting a comprehensive technical SEO audit and seeking expert guidance from consultants or agencies.

Q: Are the initial SEO results the best I will ever achieve? A: No, the initial SEO results you observe within several months to a year are not necessarily the best you will ever achieve. SEO is an ongoing journey that requires continuous optimization.

Q: How can I stay ahead of the competition in SEO? A: To stay ahead of the competition in SEO, focus on surpassing your competitors rather than trying to outsmart algorithms. Stay agile, creative, and adapt your strategies to differentiate yourself effectively.

In conclusion, SEO is not a quick fix but a long-term strategy that demands patience and persistence. While the average timeframe for SEO results is several months to a year, various factors can influence the speed of achieving those results. By understanding these factors and implementing effective SEO strategies, you can expedite the process and achieve better results over time. Remember, SEO is an ongoing journey, and continuous optimization is key to staying ahead in the ever-evolving search landscape.

In a world driven by information and instant solutions, Google Search has long been the go-to platform for finding answers to our questions. From simple inquiries to complex research, Google has provided us with a wealth of knowledge at our fingertips. Now, Google is taking its search capabilities to the next level with the introduction of its new generative AI feature. In this hands-on review, we explore the functionality, benefits, and limitations of Google’s Search Generative Experience (SGE).

Google’s SGE aims to revolutionize the way we interact with search results. Unlike the traditional search results page, the SGE infuses the search box with conversational functionality, allowing users to engage with a chatbot-like interface. By encouraging users to dive deeper into topics and ask more challenging questions, Google hopes to provide a more intuitive and comprehensive search experience.

To access the SGE, users can sign up for Google’s Search Labs. Once granted access, the search box appears unchanged. However, when a query is entered, a new section takes up a significant portion of the screen, pushing down the conventional list of links. Within this area, Google’s large language models generate a paragraph or two of information, similar to what you might find from popular chatbot models like ChatGPT or Microsoft’s Bing Chat. Buttons at the bottom of the section lead to the chatbot interface, where users can ask follow-up questions.

While the concept behind Google’s generative AI feature is promising, the execution falls short in terms of speed and efficiency. In tests conducted by WIRED, the AI-generated responses took an average of three seconds to appear, compared to the nearly instantaneous display of traditional search results. Although Google has made efforts to optimize the speed of its AI software, the sluggishness of the generative feature remains a significant drawback.

Cathy Edwards, a Google Search vice president, acknowledges the need for ongoing speed optimizations. Despite recent updates that claim to have doubled the AI’s speed, there is still room for improvement. The delay in response time often leads users to lose interest and disregard the generative AI’s output, instead opting to rely on the faster traditional results.

Speed is not the only concern when it comes to Google’s generative AI feature. The accuracy and reliability of the AI-generated responses also leave much to be desired. In the case of queries regarding the number of stamps required to mail an 8-ounce letter, the generative AI provided a response that included apparent errors in multiplication and subtraction. Furthermore, the suggested follow-up questions failed to consider crucial variables such as shape, size, and destination when calculating shipping costs.

Google acknowledges the experimental nature of its generative AI and warns users of potential variations in information quality. This disclaimer is particularly relevant when considering the conflicting stamp price recommendations provided by the AI. Navigating to the official US Postal Service’s online calculator proved that the generative AI’s suggested values were outdated and inaccurate.

Despite its shortcomings, Google’s generative AI feature represents an exciting frontier in search technology. The ability to engage in a conversation with a search engine opens up new possibilities for information retrieval and exploration. While the current limitations hinder its effectiveness, the potential for improvement and refinement is vast.

According to Google’s Edwards, the technology is still in its early stages, and pushing its boundaries is part of the ongoing development process. As the AI continues to learn and adapt, its accuracy, speed, and comprehension of complex queries are expected to improve. The generative AI feature may not yet be a replacement for traditional search results, but it certainly has the potential to enhance the search experience for users.

Another aspect worth considering is the balance between simplifying information for general audiences and catering to specialized knowledge. In some cases, the generative AI feature struggled to provide accurate and up-to-date information when asked for specific details. For instance, when inquiring about the price of a stamp, the AI responded with an outdated figure. Only by specifying the desired information as of the current month did the system accurately reflect the recent 3-cent cost hike.

While the training data limitations of models like ChatGPT may explain similar shortcomings, it is important to recognize that generative AI features like Google’s SGE are not intended to replace search engines. Instead, they aim to augment the search experience by providing more conversational and personalized responses. Striking the right balance between simplicity and specialization remains a challenge for AI-powered search features.

Context is a critical component of any search experience, and it is an area where the generative AI feature currently falls short. When users pose complex queries, the AI-generated responses often lack the necessary context to provide accurate and relevant information. This limitation emphasizes the need for ongoing advancements in natural language processing and understanding.

Google’s Edwards acknowledges the importance of context and states that further improvements in the AI software powering the generative feature are underway. As the technology evolves, users can expect a more contextualized and precise search experience that caters to their individual needs.

Google’s Search Generative Experience represents a significant step forward in the evolution of search technology. While the current implementation has its limitations, the potential for more intuitive, conversational search interactions is undeniable. The sluggishness and inaccuracies of the generative AI feature are challenges that Google is actively working to address.

As the AI software undergoes speed optimizations and improvements in information accuracy, the generative feature has the potential to provide users with a more comprehensive and personalized search experience. By enabling deeper dives into topics and encouraging challenging questions, Google aims to empower users with knowledge and insights that go beyond traditional search results.

While the generative AI feature may not yet rival the speed and precision of conventional search results, it represents an exciting frontier in the quest for more intelligent and conversational search experiences. As Google continues to refine its AI technologies, the future of search looks increasingly conversational, informative, and personalized.

In a groundbreaking development, Google is currently testing an AI-powered tool named “Genesis” that has the potential to revolutionize news writing. According to a report by The New York Times, Google has already pitched this tool to major publications such as The New York Times, The Washington Post, and News Corp, the owner of The Wall Street Journal. The aim of Genesis is to automate certain tasks and act as a personal assistant for journalists, ultimately freeing up their time for more critical aspects of their work. However, this innovation has raised concerns among some executives who consider it unsettling, as it seemingly undermines the effort put into producing accurate news stories.

As news organizations strive to stay ahead in the digital era, many have started exploring the responsible use of artificial intelligence (AI) in their newsrooms. Companies like NPR and Insider have already notified their employees about their intentions to experiment with AI in news writing. The goal is to leverage AI as a tool that assists journalists in their work, offering options for headlines, writing styles, and other aspects of the news production process. It is crucial to note that AI-generated articles should not replace the essential role of journalists in reporting, creating, and fact-checking their articles. Instead, these emerging technologies aim to enhance their productivity and efficiency, similar to the assistive tools available in Gmail and Google Docs.

Google’s Genesis tool is a significant step towards automating news writing processes. By utilizing AI algorithms, Genesis can generate news copy after analyzing the provided information. This tool is designed to serve as a personal assistant for journalists, helping them streamline their work and focus on more substantial aspects of news reporting. The overarching vision behind Genesis is to offer journalists the choice to use emerging technologies responsibly, ensuring their work is enhanced rather than replaced. This tool could potentially benefit smaller news publishers who may have limited resources but still aim to produce high-quality news content.

While the introduction of AI in news writing has the potential to increase productivity and efficiency, it also raises concerns about the spread of misinformation. AI-generated articles that are not thoroughly fact-checked or edited can inadvertently disseminate inaccurate information. This issue was highlighted earlier this year when American media website CNET experimented with generative AI to produce articles. Unfortunately, this initiative backfired, as more than half of the AI-generated articles contained factual errors or plagiarized material. As a result, CNET had to issue corrections and update the articles with substantial input from their staff writers.

As AI technology continues to advance, its role in newsrooms is likely to grow. However, it is essential to ensure that AI is used responsibly and ethically. News organizations must strike a balance between leveraging AI tools for improved productivity and maintaining journalistic standards of accuracy and integrity. While AI can assist in generating articles for certain categories, such as corporate earnings reports, it should not replace the human touch that journalists bring to their work. The expertise, analysis, and critical thinking skills of journalists are indispensable in providing accurate and reliable news to the public.

Google’s Genesis tool is poised to revolutionize news writing by automating certain tasks and freeing up journalists’ time. However, it is crucial to approach AI integration in newsrooms responsibly, ensuring that it enhances journalists’ work rather than replacing it. While AI can provide options and suggestions for headlines and writing styles, it should not compromise the accuracy and integrity of news reporting. As AI technology continues to evolve, news organizations must stay vigilant and prioritize the role of journalists in producing well-researched, fact-checked, and unbiased news articles. By striking the right balance between AI assistance and human expertise, the future of news writing can be a harmonious collaboration between technology and journalism.

The impact of artificial intelligence (AI) will once again dominate the earnings reporting season as the technology sector prepares. All publicly traded IT businesses will be strongly impacted by the hoopla surrounding AI, according to Morgan Stanley analyst Brian Nowak. However, Google and Meta Platforms are anticipated to be the two businesses most impacted.

Google [GOOGL] is scheduled to report its fiscal second-quarter results on July 25th. The search engine giant is expected to be one of the most affected companies in the tech industry due to AI. According to Nowak, the immediate impact of AI on Google search won’t be as deep, but it’s expected to be significant in the long-term.

Nowak has identified three factors that he believes will put Google in the best position to disrupt and improve its business. These are:

Google has access to vast amounts of data, which it can use to train and improve its AI algorithms. This data includes user behavior, search queries, and click-through rates, which Google can use to create more personalized search results.

Google has some of the best AI talent in the industry. The company has invested heavily in AI research, and it has a team of experts working on developing new AI technologies.

Google has built a robust infrastructure that can handle the vast amounts of data required for AI. The company has invested heavily in building data centers and network infrastructure that can support its AI algorithms.

Nowak believes that AI will fundamentally change the way we interact with Google search. The search engine will become more personalized, providing users with more relevant results based on their search history and behavior. AI will also enable Google to provide more accurate and relevant answers to complex queries, making it easier for users to find the information they’re looking for.

Meta Platforms [META], formerly known as Facebook, is another company that’s expected to be significantly impacted by AI. Meta is tying its pursuit of the metaverse to AI, which Nowak believes will have a significant long-term impact on the company.

Meta is expected to integrate large language models into its applications to drive new capabilities for users and advertisers. However, according to Nowak, changing behavior and material success are less certain, and online advertising doesn’t have to be a zero-sum game.

Nowak advises investors to remain focused on the fundamental earnings power of companies, even as AI changes continue to unfold. Adoption curves for AI technologies are often not steep or straight lines. Therefore, companies must focus on their core business and fundamental earnings power to succeed in the long term.

The impact of AI on Google search and Meta advertising will be significant in the long term. Google’s dominance in search, vast amounts of data, top AI talent, and robust infrastructure put it in the best position to disrupt and improve its business. Meanwhile, Meta Platforms’ pursuit of the metaverse and integration of AI will have significant long-term impacts on the company. Despite the hype around AI, it’s essential for investors to focus on the fundamental earnings power of companies to succeed in the long term.

We have lived in a technological age for decades now. Professionals in every corner of the business world know how to utilize the hardware and software that applies to their field of expertise.

Nevertheless, as time has gone on, the ongoing technological revolution has continued to gain momentum, and the change has sped up. In the post-pandemic era, there is a smorgasbord of new tech-driven developments that are pushing the business world forward in every area.

Here are a few unique ways technology is impacting how organizations do business in the present.

Remote Capabilities Are Still Affecting Education

Everyone is well aware of the “remote classroom” mass experiment that came about during the coronavirus pandemic. This was, by and large, a failed attempt to shift school online. However, there are some important silver lining aspects that businesses and nonprofit organizations alike have taken from the experience.

For instance, when wildfire smoke from Canada blanketed New York City in June, the metropolis reverted to remote school as a way to keep children safe while air pollution was high. This temporary use of remote schooling could become a staple option for educational administrators to keep in their back pockets whenever things like weather events hamper access to school grounds.

Keeping our examples in the Great White North, the Canadian company Teachers on Call also gleaned new technological value from the experience of the past few years by combining the concept of remote work and academia. The tutoring agency used to operate as a mainly in-person service, offering personal educator support to a home crowd based in Ontario.

TOC recently steered into the evolving educational landscape by adopting a hybrid model. Now the operation is nearly all online. The new format allows TOC’s tutors to reach a much larger audience that spans far beyond its original in-person demographic. It also means it can expand its pool of tutors, as they can connect with any student in any location as long as both have an internet connection.

Automation Is Impacting Manufacturing

We’ve all heard of the Internet of Things or the “IoT.” Typically this conjures images of smart appliances (many of which are already available). Or cars that can drive themselves (a development that is just around the corner).

It’s fun to think of exciting IoT applications that have a direct impact on consumer lifestyles. However, one of the biggest applications of the IoT — and one that has major indirect potential in daily life — is happening out of sight and out of mind. Where? In warehouses.

The Industrial Internat of Things or “IIoT” is the application of smart technology in warehouses and other industrial settings. It involves things like data collection amongst warehouse equipment and even between facilities that operate regions apart. The result is a detailed analytical approach that perpetually improves the efficiency of how factories and plants operate.

Many are hailing this as “Industry 4.0.” It’s a moniker that puts the new tech on par with other major historical events like the Industrial Revolution of the 19th century and the Computer Age of the 20th. If that’s the case, Industry 4.0 will be one of the most explosive tech developments of our lifetime.

AI Is Influencing Content Creation

Now for the elephant in the room. When ChaptGPT came out in late 2022, it caused a tremendous stir throughout the business community. People from every industry and niche noticed the sleek new software that could talk to you as if it were a sentient being.

Since that time, ChatGTP’s capabilities have come back down to earth. Many have called it out for being a glorified paraphrasing search tool — but in reality, that’s only made its utility that much better.

Businesses are quickly adapting to the capabilities of an AI text creator. The automation and productivity experts at Zapier suggest using it to generate ideas, brainstorm content development, and even create SEO meta descriptions for marketing copy. The social media giant Hootsuite has published no less than 46 different prompts to help companies generate social-friendly content, too.

Artificial intelligence may not be able to fully replace content creators yet. However, it is completely changing how they generate content behind the scenes. As the software continues to develop, the ability to create content independent of human intervention can’t be too far behind.

Data Is Overhauling Marketing Strategy

Along with improving efficiency on the factory floor, data, and analytics tech is also influencing how organizations do business across every industry market. Digital marketing has already been an option for years. However, the improvement of data analytics tools has led to the rise of new tactics and concepts.

Growth marketing, for example, is a data-driven approach to marketing. Growth marketers deliberately stay flexible. Rather than over-emphasizing short-term gains and customer acquisition, they prioritize the consumer at every point of the customer lifecycle.

As marketing plans play out, growth marketers collect data and measure it against marketing KPIs. They then tweak or pivot based on the results, ensuring that marketing campaigns stay on target every step of the way.

This new, tech-powered approach to marketing removes the need for gut instinct. Instead, experience, information, and the right tech tools can craft powerful strategies that only become more effective over time.

Technology isn’t new, but it’s certainly changing fast, especially in how organizations do business. As tech hardware and software evolve, businesses are finding new ways to apply them to their plans, strategies, and challenges. From remote education to the IIoT, from ChatGPT to growth marketing, tech is revolutionizing the business world as we know it — and it’s showing no sign of slowing down any time soon.

Google continues its fight against spam and untrustworthy content on its search engine with a new spam reporting tool. The tool is an evolution of a previous page that the tech giant had relegated to taking spam complaints. Now more sophisticated, this new reporting tool will help to catch malware, misinformation, and other bad actors.

It’s no secret that the internet is full of malicious websites and pages dedicated to spam, scams, and other nefarious acts. Ultimately it’s a shared responsibility between the search engine and its users to help keep track of these digital conmen.

What’s New?

The new spam reporting tool from Google is a vast improvement over the previous system. It’s now more user-friendly, and more effective in discovering bad websites. Additionally, its processes are useful in developing even further improvements to the tool in the future.

One of the first big changes is in the consideration of what spam is. Below this section is a guide to reporting content, but the tool itself also hosts a comprehensive list of what policies your report might violate. This makes for an easier time outlining your actual report to Google, as you can determine for yourself what the site has done wrong.

The new reporting tool now also has the capability to report multiple websites at once. Amid the report form, you can now list up to five different web pages that all violate the same selected policy. This removes one potential roadblock for people to submit valuable reports.

Finally, Google has developed a more thorough process for actually filing a report, one with more details. This is beneficial for the tool and Google’s algorithm to learn and improve. The details can help hone the tool to rake for spam and flag it for review.

What Do I Report?

It can be challenging to determine what constitutes spam under Google’s terms. According to their spam policy, there are a few major details to look out for when deciding if you should report a web page.

Disingenuous Content

One thing Google is particularly strict on is websites that masquerade as something else in search results. One of the most egregious examples of this is through a practice called cloaking. Cloaking describes the process of a website displaying different information to individuals than to the search engine that discovers it. This means it could show up in searches that are completely unrelated to a user’s search.

Contemporary practices also exist to boost the search capabilities of spammy websites that Google considers actionable. Some sites will employ “doorways” to drive traffic. This is a tactic that requires mass control of multiple different domains or search terms all directed to an unrelated launch page. Additionally, some sites will hide links or searchable text directly on the page. This could be hidden by using text the same color as the background or hidden behind photos or videos. This drives search capabilities by unfairly registering in unrelated searches from the hidden text. A similar practice to this is keyword stuffing, essentially the same idea, but it resides in the metadata.

Spam Content

This section is dedicated to the kind of content that Google considers to be malicious regurgitation. This essentially encompasses all content that exists to optimize clicks by false means. This includes practices like automatically generated content. Sites that use auto-generated content will use raking algorithms to determine what content is worth copying and then employ bots to formulate clickable content. This is a prime example of what Google considers spam.

Another example of spam content is scraped content. This term is used to describe sites that will either automatically or manually scan popular sites and rip their information for personal use. This comes in the form of blatant copying with word-for-word plagiarism, or through slight modifications. Essentially the information is all the same with no sourcing, or additional value to the user.

These, among other similar practices, are emblematic of the sort of valueless content that Google considers outright spam.

Malicious Websites

The final form of content that Google considers actionable online is malicious content, either blatant or hidden. This comes in the form of some of the more dangerous and predatory practices online. Websites that have sneaky redirections to more precarious launch pages are in this category, as well as exploitative scams like phishing. Then there are websites designed to trick users into installing malware for further nefarious purposes. These are all in blatant disregard of Google’s policies and are therefore some of the most important sites to flag down.

How to Access the New Report Tool

To use the new spam report tool, you can follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Google Search Console: https://search.google.com/search-console/
  2. Sign in to your Google account.
  3. Click on the “Spam” tab.
  4. Click on the “Report Spam” button.
  5. Enter the URL of the spammy page.
  6. Provide a brief description of the issue.
  7. Select the type of spam that you are reporting.
  8. (Optional) Submit screenshots or other supporting evidence.
  9. Click on the “Submit” button.

Google report tool will review your report and take appropriate action. If the report is found to be valid, Google will take steps to remove the spammy page from its search results.

With Apple’s recent announcement of their newest luxury processor — the M2 Ultra — people are already speculating on when we might see the next evolution in Apple’s silicon chips. Since the industry leader’s swap from Intel processors to their own proprietary Apple Silicon ones, customers have been anxiously waiting to see how the new chips might push the boundaries of power.

Hot off the heels of an announcement of the M2 Ultra, some rumors are saying that the M3 chip is already in early testing stages with the potential to see a release in 2024. What does that mean for Apple customers, and how is the new chip expected to stack up to previous iterations? Here’s all you need to know:

What is Apple Silicon?

Apple Silicon is the newest processing architecture to hit the computing world in recent memory. After the groundbreaking news from WWDC 2020, Apple announced its departure from Intel and all further use of Intel processors. In tandem with this, the tech giant also announced what it would replace the Intel chips with, Apple Silicon.

This was a pretty momentous move on Apple’s part, and while some met this news with apprehension, early adopters were quick to praise the switch. From a business perspective, it made sense for Apple to make the change to create its own processing infrastructure. It primarily gave Apple developers more control over the processing chips. Therefore this allowed them to make them more compatible with their products. Additionally, it was cheaper to build in-house than to purchase from an outside source. Along with the announcement of the new architecture came the announcement of the actual chips that would use that infrastructure: the M1.

The M1, Apple Silicon’s First Chip

The first to appear in Apple’s family of computer processors was the M1 chip. The announcement of Apple Silicon in June 2020. The first computers to come equipped with the new architecture came in November of the same year. Along came the 2020 Macbook Pro with the M1 launching with it.

The performance of the M1 chip in the Macbook Pro was impressive to many. It immediately seemed to outperform the previous Intel processors. While it did not come without its flaws, consumers were quick to accept the new chips as standard. The major shift in power came due in large part because of the new united memory architecture. Instead of having to expend energy swapping between pools of memory like on the Intel processors, Apple’s chips were now connected through one channel of data.

Apple would later go on to release the M1 Pro, the M1 Max, and the M1 Ultra. Each of these are larger, more powerful versions of the original M1 processor.

The M2, a Step Up

If the M1 was the first step into proprietary processors, then the M2 was where Apple began to hone its chips. First appearing in the 2022 Macbook Air and Pro, the M2 chip was a standard iterative upgrade to its predecessor. Boasting about a 20% increase in processing speed, the M2 was also more battery efficient than the previous M1.

Some months after the M2’s release was the introduction of the M2 Pro and the M2 Max. These followed the development line that the M1 began, each at a higher strength capability than the previous.
The most recent addition to the family of M2 chips was the announcement of the M2 Ultra. As of the June 5, 2023, Apple press release on the matter, the M2 Ultra is the highest power processor the company has released to date.

“M2 Ultra delivers astonishing performance and capabilities for our pro users’ most demanding workflows, while maintaining Apple silicon’s industry-leading power efficiency,” said Johny Srouji, Apple’s senior vice president of Hardware Technologies. “With huge performance gains in the CPU, GPU, and Neural Engine, combined with massive memory bandwidth in a single SoC, M2 Ultra is the world’s most powerful chip ever created for a personal computer.”

What to Expect for the Silicon M3

Most of the conversation about the M3 is speculative, but some have been granted exclusive access to information about the chip. Mark Gurman of Bloomberg’s Power On wrote about the data collected from an App Store developer

“The company has begun putting next-generation Macs with the M3 chips through their paces, testing them with third-party apps to ensure compatibility with its software ecosystem,” said Gurman.

Power On’s also included information about the anticipated specs we can expect from the M3 compared to the previous editions. After reports of a tested M3 Pro processor, it’s going to host 12 GPU cores, 18 graphics cores, and 36 GB of memory. As expected, this eclipses the previous 10 GPU cores, 16 graphics cores, and 32 GB of memory of the M2 Pro as well as the 8 GPU cores, 14 graphics cores, and 32 GB of memory of the M1 Pro.

While all three processors are impressive, it’s clear that Apple is implementing their iterative evolution in their chips as well. It’s through this iterative evolution that we see the next step in Apple Silicon’s processors.

So when can we expect the shiny new M3s? Gurman’s expectation places it near the end of 2023 or into 2024.

“My belief is the first Macs with M3 chips will begin arriving toward the end of the year or early next year,” said Gurman. “While the first 15-inch MacBook Air with an M2 chip is set to arrive this summer, the company is already working on M3-based iMacs, high-end and low-end MacBook Pros, and MacBook Airs, I’m told.”

Productivity is a crucial concern for any team or organization. In the modern era, there are numerous systems and tools that can help teams work more efficiently and effectively. As a result, it pays to stay current on the most promising emerging technologies and strategies to assist teams in increasing their productivity.

One significant development in recent years has been the proliferation of cloud-based tools and services. These tools allow teams to collaborate and share documents and other resources in real time, no matter where they are located.

Anywhere/anytime access can be especially valuable for remote teams working in different physical locations. Some well-known examples of cloud-based tools include Google Docs, Dropbox, and Asana.

The Rise of Computer-Enabled Technology

Another significant emerging trend is using artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) to automate various tasks and processes.

For example, natural language processing (NLP) technology can automatically extract essential information from documents, saving teams the time and effort of manual data entry. Similarly, machine learning algorithms can be trained to identify patterns and trends in data, helping teams make more informed decisions.

Virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) are also starting to be used more widely in the workplace. As a result, VR can be used for training and onboarding new employees, while AR can visualize and interact with complex data in real time. Consequently, these technologies have the potential to revolutionize the way teams work and collaborate.
