Nikon cameras are popular among photographers and professionals for their ability to capture high-resolution pictures and videos. But when you shoot in RAW format, you create a significantly larger file on the SD card of your Nikon camera. As a result, the SD card of your Nikon camera may get quickly filled with lots of photographs and videos, especially if you take many photos in one go. To reuse the camera for your next shoot, you first need to backup those photos on your system and then format the SD card in the Nikon camera itself.

How to Format an SD Card on a Nikon

Formatting the SD card not only wipes everything on it but also prepares the SD card to be reused. There can be other reasons why you need to format the SD card, such as:

  • To optimize the performance of the SD card, as with time, the performance of the card degrades.
  • Change the file system of the SD card according to the device in which the card will be used.
  • Your memory card stopped working or is corrupted.
  • You are starting a new shoot or project.

However, always backup the contents of your SD card before formatting it. In this blog, we have explained how to format SD cards on Nikon cameras.

How to Format an SD Card on a Nikon Camera?

There are two methods to format SD cards on a Nikon camera: using the Menu and Format buttons on the camera.

Method 1 – Using the Menu Button

This is the most common method to format SD cards for Nikon cameras, as almost all the Nikon cameras have the Menu button on the back. Here’s how to format the Nikon camera using the Menu button:

  • Insert the memory card into the Nikon camera.
  • To access the menu, press the MENU button, which is located on the top-left of the camera.

Method 2 – Using the Quick Format Button

Some Nikon camera models have two buttons with a red ‘Format’ label next to them. For example, on the Nikon D800 and D810 cameras, these two buttons are the MODE button on the top and the Delete button with the trash can icon at the back, respectively, along with Format written near each button. Likewise, Nikon D610 and D750 cameras, have the metering mode button and Delete button.

Here’s how to format the Nikon camera using these two buttons:

  • Press and hold both the red Format buttons together for a few seconds until the screen shows ‘For’(format).
  • Once it shows, release the buttons.
  • If you have only one memory card slot filled, your camera will automatically detect it, whereas, if both the slots have SD cards, it will detect the slot that has been designated as the ‘Primary slot.’
  • Now rotate the main command dial on the back panel to format the card.

How to Recover Photos Lost After Formatting the SD Card?

Formatting normally wipes all data including photos, videos, and other data from the SD card and reset it to its initial state. So, if you have lost precious photos from the SD card due to formatting, then no need to panic as you can easily recover them. You can use advanced SD card recovery software like Stellar Photo Recovery to recover missing or formatted photos from the Nikon camera SD card.

recover photo,audio, & video

This tool can easily recover deleted or lost photos and other media files lost due to deletion, corruption, formatting, and other data loss scenarios. Stellar Photo Recovery supports multiple file formats like JPG/JPEG, PNG, CR2, and RAW files. This lightweight and easy-to-use software can recover deleted photos from SD cards of all popular camera brands like Nikon, Canon, etc.; drones, action cameras, and camcorders.

Tips to Avoid SD Card Data Loss

  • Always use SD cards from reputed brands like Samsung, SanDisk, etc.
  • Always use a good-quality card reader from a trusted manufacturer.
  • Remove the SD card only after turning off your camera.
  • Don’t shoot when your Nikon camera SD card is already full.
  • Never shoot when your camera is running out of battery.
  • Always take a backup of your photos stored on an SD card.
  • Always keep photo recovery software handy.
  • Always format the SD card in the camera.

Conclusion

It’s better to format the Nikon camera SD card regularly than to simply delete the photos you don’t need and continue shooting. However, it’s important to remember that formatting erases all data from the card, so it’s crucial to back up any important data beforehand to avoid any data loss situation. Nevertheless, you can always rely on Stellar Photo Recovery software to recover deleted photos from your Nikon DSLRs. By following the steps mentioned above in the methods, you can easily format the SD cards of Nikon D3000 or other models.

With Apple’s recent announcement of their newest luxury processor — the M2 Ultra — people are already speculating on when we might see the next evolution in Apple’s silicon chips. Since the industry leader’s swap from Intel processors to their own proprietary Apple Silicon ones, customers have been anxiously waiting to see how the new chips might push the boundaries of power.

Hot off the heels of an announcement of the M2 Ultra, some rumors are saying that the M3 chip is already in early testing stages with the potential to see a release in 2024. What does that mean for Apple customers, and how is the new chip expected to stack up to previous iterations? Here’s all you need to know:

What is Apple Silicon?

Apple Silicon is the newest processing architecture to hit the computing world in recent memory. After the groundbreaking news from WWDC 2020, Apple announced its departure from Intel and all further use of Intel processors. In tandem with this, the tech giant also announced what it would replace the Intel chips with, Apple Silicon.

This was a pretty momentous move on Apple’s part, and while some met this news with apprehension, early adopters were quick to praise the switch. From a business perspective, it made sense for Apple to make the change to create its own processing infrastructure. It primarily gave Apple developers more control over the processing chips. Therefore this allowed them to make them more compatible with their products. Additionally, it was cheaper to build in-house than to purchase from an outside source. Along with the announcement of the new architecture came the announcement of the actual chips that would use that infrastructure: the M1.

The M1, Apple Silicon’s First Chip

The first to appear in Apple’s family of computer processors was the M1 chip. The announcement of Apple Silicon in June 2020. The first computers to come equipped with the new architecture came in November of the same year. Along came the 2020 Macbook Pro with the M1 launching with it.

The performance of the M1 chip in the Macbook Pro was impressive to many. It immediately seemed to outperform the previous Intel processors. While it did not come without its flaws, consumers were quick to accept the new chips as standard. The major shift in power came due in large part because of the new united memory architecture. Instead of having to expend energy swapping between pools of memory like on the Intel processors, Apple’s chips were now connected through one channel of data.

Apple would later go on to release the M1 Pro, the M1 Max, and the M1 Ultra. Each of these are larger, more powerful versions of the original M1 processor.

The M2, a Step Up

If the M1 was the first step into proprietary processors, then the M2 was where Apple began to hone its chips. First appearing in the 2022 Macbook Air and Pro, the M2 chip was a standard iterative upgrade to its predecessor. Boasting about a 20% increase in processing speed, the M2 was also more battery efficient than the previous M1.

Some months after the M2’s release was the introduction of the M2 Pro and the M2 Max. These followed the development line that the M1 began, each at a higher strength capability than the previous.
The most recent addition to the family of M2 chips was the announcement of the M2 Ultra. As of the June 5, 2023, Apple press release on the matter, the M2 Ultra is the highest power processor the company has released to date.

“M2 Ultra delivers astonishing performance and capabilities for our pro users’ most demanding workflows, while maintaining Apple silicon’s industry-leading power efficiency,” said Johny Srouji, Apple’s senior vice president of Hardware Technologies. “With huge performance gains in the CPU, GPU, and Neural Engine, combined with massive memory bandwidth in a single SoC, M2 Ultra is the world’s most powerful chip ever created for a personal computer.”

What to Expect for the Silicon M3

Most of the conversation about the M3 is speculative, but some have been granted exclusive access to information about the chip. Mark Gurman of Bloomberg’s Power On wrote about the data collected from an App Store developer

“The company has begun putting next-generation Macs with the M3 chips through their paces, testing them with third-party apps to ensure compatibility with its software ecosystem,” said Gurman.

Power On’s also included information about the anticipated specs we can expect from the M3 compared to the previous editions. After reports of a tested M3 Pro processor, it’s going to host 12 GPU cores, 18 graphics cores, and 36 GB of memory. As expected, this eclipses the previous 10 GPU cores, 16 graphics cores, and 32 GB of memory of the M2 Pro as well as the 8 GPU cores, 14 graphics cores, and 32 GB of memory of the M1 Pro.

While all three processors are impressive, it’s clear that Apple is implementing their iterative evolution in their chips as well. It’s through this iterative evolution that we see the next step in Apple Silicon’s processors.

So when can we expect the shiny new M3s? Gurman’s expectation places it near the end of 2023 or into 2024.

“My belief is the first Macs with M3 chips will begin arriving toward the end of the year or early next year,” said Gurman. “While the first 15-inch MacBook Air with an M2 chip is set to arrive this summer, the company is already working on M3-based iMacs, high-end and low-end MacBook Pros, and MacBook Airs, I’m told.”

When working from home, having the right tools can make or break your flow of work. As a writer, that flow is sacred and hard to keep if the room around you does not feel balanced. The space you use as your writing desk is a huge part of that balance. Obviously, you do not always have to use the same exact desk and chair to write each day. But, having a dedicated office space to work at is great for consistency. Sure you can go to a coffee shop, or go anywhere to take in a change of scenery while getting some writing done.

And of course, there is nothing wrong with a lap desk in bed on a cold and rainy day every once in a while. Nevertheless, below are 3 essential qualities to look for in a writing desk.

Save some time and buy our recommended writing desk on Amazon.

  • Ergonomic

Including ergonomics in your desk decision requires thought into the best positions for your body, desk, and chair to be in while writing in order to maximize your productivity. To accommodate desks that sit too high or too low on a person, many chairs will change their levels. To go a step further, desks are now being made to cater more closely to the personalization of the perfect working height and adjust to that.

Ergonomically correct furniture is essential for your health, especially if you are working from home. Creating a space that fits into the same area you sleep and eat at can be challenging enough without thinking about the upkeep of your posture.

  • Compatibility with your style

When it comes to your style, desks have no shortage of iniquities. If you are someone who needs to be up and walking, you can purchase a walking pad underneath an adjustable desk, making it so you can sit or walk and work whenever you would like. For writers who prefer a very simple and sleek writing experience, there are plenty of minimally designed desks to cater to the minimalistic working style. On the opposite end of that, desks with lots of bells and whistles are all over the market as well. Do not be afraid to bring your style into your desk choice, because you are the one who will be using it each day.

  • Comfort and Practicality

Finding the perfect writing desk is not just about style and how it visually looks, it’s also about comfort. Is the desk easy to sit at? Does it feel natural? If you feel strange sitting at your own desk, it will be much harder to produce from that space.

Comfort also has to do with the durability of the desk. If the desk does not feel like it can support everything you need in regards to weight or space, then it will automatically not be the desk for you. Having a desk that can feel clean and put together is essential for creating a productive workspace. If a desk does not easily support a laptop or desktop along with all of your essentials such as pens, a lamp, and other miscellaneous items, it is safe to say you can keep looking for a better fit.

Practicality, which goes along with comfort, is another building block to finding the perfect writing desk. The mark of a great desk is its ability to stand out in a room. Additionally, it’s to transport you into a realm of creativity all at once. Sitting down at your writing desk should ease your mind to a place where your productivity flows.

Pull it All Together

The importance of choosing the right desk for your workflow and style can be a crucial step in the work-from-home experience. Take into account your working style and what you feel is important to your workflow. For some people, being able to move around a lot throughout the day is important. So, choosing an electric adjustable desk is great so they can stand or place a walking pad under.

Save some time and buy our recommended writing desk on Amazon.

Conclusion

Now that you know the most important things to look for in a writing desk, you can confidently get to work on finding the perfect desk for your writing workspace.

First there was Google Tango. Then it was Mark Zuckerberg promising Facebook AR Studio, and now the next biggest company to throw its hat in the Augmented Reality ring is Apple. The Cupertino-based company announced at its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) that ARKit, an augmented reality platform, is going to be a key feature of its latest OS.

An Apple AR Wasn’t a Surprise

It has been nearly a year since Tim Cook first hinted at the fact that Apple may be developing an AR platform. During 2016’s Apple earnings day, Cook fielded questions about the Pokémon Go phenomenon that had driven the world to obsession as they tried to catch them all. His answer was as follows. To get the full effect read it in Tim Cook’s soft southern accent and pronounce Pokemons like Pokay-mans:

“We have been and continue to invest a lot in this. We are high on AR for the long run, we think there’s great things for customers and a great commercial opportunity. The number one thing is to make sure our products work well with other developers’ kind of products like Pokemon, that’s why you see so many iPhones in the wild chasing Pokemons.”

His response suggests Apple may be telling the truth when it calls ARKit “the largest platform in the world” because it has the potential to be an AR tool built for developers. In the past, AR developers have had to tweak existing camera software in order to support an AR environment, in which it has to track its own position in relation to objects in reality. It’s an added step that software developers have to engineer before they can release an app that supports AR.

With ARKit built right into iOS 11, Apple has taken over the hardest job an AR developer has to do, allowing these creators to focus entirely on the gaming experience itself.

Apple Relies on World Tracking

World tracking is a consumer friendly term that’s perfectly intuitive in meaning. Though it describes a highly complex process, ultimately ARKit is engineered to chart the world it “sees” and keep track of the objects that inhabit it.

Its visions relies on sensory input that most other augmented reality use: VIO, which is short for Visual Inertial Odometry. VIO compares the raw data collected from the camera to the info gathered by the phone’s built-in sensors responsible for creating its inertial reference frame. Instruments like the accelerometer and gyroscope contribute towards creating this frame, and they’re integral to the software’s ability to measure the position and orientation of an object.

The ARKit platform will synthesize the data pulled from these sensors in order to pinpoint or anchor with improved accuracy digital objects in a 3D space. In order to project the AR world realistically onto the 3D space, the software will take into consideration scale and depth in addition to location. It will even calibrate its Augmented Reality according to the amount of light available in the real world. Its expected ARKit’s motion tracking will be faster, more stable, and better at scaling than previous AR platform attempts regardless of how you use it.

It’s too early to tell if ARKit will impede other apps or vice versa, but Apple claims it will require less CPU and battery to run. As for hardware, it’s safe to say it will work well with accessories applied to the iPhone. Take, for example, the skin wrapped around your handset. It won’t hinder ARKit’s abilities, as long as it has an accurate cut around the camera that doesn’t obstruct the lens. In fact, it will make using your phone as your navigate AR a little easier. The special iPhone 7 skins designers at dbrand have exclusive rights to authentic 3M vinyl. Not only does this mean they offer colors and finishes you’ll find nowhere else on the Internet, but it also means iPhone 7 Plus skins from dbrand are texturized to provide better grip as you explore the space where the digital and real worlds collide.

ARKit’s Earliest Applications

To show off what the platform can do, Apple shared a video of how it will affect apps like Pokémon Go at WWDC. Previously, the iPhone performed notoriously poor with the app’s AR portion of the game, as caught Pokémon would float within the field of view without any relation to the 3D environment. Most users chose to opt out of it once the novelty of seeing a Pokémon in the park wore off.

In the keynote’s Pokémon Go video, Pikachu was fixed in place, regardless of how the user moved his or her phone, suggesting an improved experience awaits gamers in the fall. Though subtle, the differences hold promise for the future.

Peter Jackson and his studio Wingnut also showed off a demo of their game developed with Unreal Engine 4, which is supported by ARKit. The demo involved an AR landscape on top of a table. A small town, which eventually became the scene of a war, could be seen through the presenter’s iPad. The table itself remained clear.
Other iOS developers have spent the last few weeks experimenting with Apple’s ARKit, the result of which you can find here. These early renderings are a little silly compared to the sleek demos at the WWDC, but it demonstrates its simplest applications well.

iOS 11 beta will be available to testers later on this month, but consumers worldwide will only have to wait until Fall 2017 to get its final version. Soon, what’s only available to a handful of software developers will be accessible to billions around the world, and it’s going to change the way we use our iOS handsets as mobile gaming devices forever.

Technology has slowly creeped into every aspect of our daily life, even family life. The picture of a family eating dinner together, each with their eyes glued to a smartphone or tablet, has become a normal sight. Tech giant, Samsung wants to take this step further with an idea that many are calling dystopian. The company’s latest push is to give bedtime stories a virtual reality twist.

Recently, Samsung unveiled the Bedtime VR Stories app. Being marketed as “the future of children’s bedtime,” the company says the app “combines the latest innovations in virtual reality with the power and importance of traditional storytelling.”

Samsung VR

The company is quick to explain they aren’t trying to replace traditional bedtimes routine and take away parent-child interaction. Creators say the app was meant to help parents remain connected to their children while they are away from home. A surprising large amount of parents live away from their children or travel a lot for work, such as deployed serviceman or a parent sharing custody.

The app is meant to work with Samsung’s Gear VR headset and is currently being tested out by families in the UK.

“Parents will be able to tell their children a bedtime story like no other with both parent and child transported to far flung worlds and galaxies, interacting with dinosaurs, arctic animals and robots,” a spokesperson explains. “However far apart they are, parents will be able to share that all-important bedtime story with their child, using VR technology to connect them in the same virtual world. The child will even hear their parent reciting the story and be able to interact with their parent as though they are in the same room.”

There are many obstacles that Samsung will encounter as they try to boost support of their latest idea, such as the use of VR headsets not being recommended for children under 13.

Good luck trying to get your teenager to join you for a bedtime story.

Some might say that the gadget world has been a bit boring lately. As smartphones became dominate over music players, point and shoot cameras and GPS navigation systems, you were probably wondering what could happen to make any innovations into real game changers.

This is exactly what the creators of the newest gadget and technology blog, Circuit Breaker aims to answer. Circuit Breaker, a brainchild of Verge, will focus on the fact that the energy and investment that goes into the smartphone supply chain can be applied to other gadgets, such as CPUs and GPUs.

In fact, the writers over at Circuit Breaker say that those powerful smartphones will allow us to create tons of new gadgets. Now, they are are quick to say that many of these gadgets are not going to be the best thing since sliced bread, but there will be a couple that stand the test of time.

“But that’s the fun, and the reason we’re starting Circuit Breaker. A lot of these new gadgets are going to be bad! A lot of them are going to have a sliver of genius, but be held back by the limits of current technology. And a lot of them are going to be awesome,” writes blogger Nilay Patel. “Circuit Breaker is a place to track all this new stuff, figure out all the trends, and understand where the industry is going before it gets there. It’s not about buying advice or reviews — it’s about watching the future get invented in real time.”

Circuit Breaker

The new blog will be managed by Paul Miller, one of the founding fathers of Verge. Miller has experienced all of the highlights of the tech world. While Verge covers plenty of topics in tech world, the website was built by people who love gadgets. Verge has grown into a website that rivals its techie competitors, such as Wired. The creators promise a fun and casual environment with plenty to discover.

You can check out Circuit Breaker on Facebook or their webpage.

Blogging is so easy, a caveman could do it! Okay, that might not be entirely true. There’s a certain amount of talent and drive needed to create a successful blog, and not everyone has it. However, it is true that starting a blog is extremely easy. So much so, that you can do it right from your personal tablet.

The Benefits of Blogging from a Tablet

Starting a blog from your tablet is a great option if you’re looking to capitalize on the blogging market without a lot of overhead. The convenience of tablet blogging makes it easy to dive into your blog wherever you are, whether on your sofa at home or on vacation at the beach.

Besides that, you can purchase a high-quality tablet and accessories for a fraction of the cost of a laptop or computer. Furthermore, for just a few dollars a month, you can protect your tablet beyond the manufacturer’s warranty for things like drops, spills, and other accidents not covered by the original warranty.

All in all, it’s a simple and affordable option for starting a blog and keeping it going with little cost to you.

Great Blogging Apps for Your Tablet

Using apps is a great way to streamline the blogging process. Most of the popular blogging platforms have apps that you can use on a tablet. Here are some of the best blogging apps out there.

Tumblr: If you’re more into the social networking side of blogging, this is a great app for you. It’s a micro blogging platform that allows you to connect with a large community and test the waters to see how your blog will do. Beginners can use the platform to find out if they have the talent to make it blogging full time and keep up with the conversations with their fellow bloggers.

WordPress: This is one of the most popular blogging platforms in the world. The app is easy to use and allows you to do the same things as the website, including writing posts, uploading photos, editing your pages, designing your blog, and managing comments.

Blogger: You can access the basic form of Blogger for free through Google. Many people recognize this blog as blogspot.com, since that’s its subdomain. The app enables you to compose posts, edit existing posts, read through old posts, easily switch between blogging accounts, embed multimedia, edit your account, and much more.

Camera+: This is an affordable app that makes it easy to edit images and make your own for your blog. High quality images are a must, so it’s important to have the right photo-editing apps.

Dictionary.com: Varied language and an extensive vocabulary are extremely important for bloggers. Dictionary.com enables you to look up words and find synonyms to help keep your language fresh and accurate at all times.

SwiftKey Keyboard: Don’t worry about the small buttons on your tablet keyboard with this app that predicts what words you’re trying to say, helping to eliminate typos and speed up the typing process.

Tape-a-Talk Voice Recorder: The ability to record voice is extremely important for tablet bloggers. It helps to cut down on typing time and even offers multi-media options for your blog.

Techies care about their health and staying fit too! With the advent of the mobile technology era we’ve seen a plethora of apps, websites and gadgets geared towards conquering and tracking everyday life and improving productivity. The truth is that most of us find every excuse we can to never workout or indulge in as much as we want in our sweet tooth. We constantly look for ways to make tracking meals and those calories easier and Kickstarter has helped to launch quite a few products to help us with just that. The Apple Gazette Kickstarter store tracks and showcases fully-funded Apple-centric products geared towards our techies and lots of other products.

healthy apple

I found a couple health conscious launched projects that will definitely inspire you to start monitoring and working toward a healthier life.

The HAPIfork

agks-hero-hapifork

HapiFork06

The HAPIfork is a device used with Apple products to help you track your fork portion sizes and how long it takes you to eat your meals in an effort to help you slow down your munching speed since fast eating leads to poor digestion and weight control challenges. The HAPIfork warns users with indicator light alerts when eating too quickly by measuring every instance when you bring your food from your plate to your mouth.

The device comes integrated with apps called HAPILabs and HAPIform which offer a coaching program and links your data to an online dashboard for tracking eating habits.

A perfect addition to your everyday utensils to curb your eating behavior. Check out the HAPIfork here.

Sensordrone

Health isn’t all about losing weight, tracking meal habits and avoiding sweets but includes paying attention to the quality of the environment we’re living in. The Sensordrone kinda turns you into a scientist / climatologist by turning your mobile device into a Carbon Monoxide Detector, Non-Contact Thermometer, Gas Leak Detector, Light Sensor, Weather Station, Color Tester, Infrared Heat Detector, Diagnostic Tool, and even a professional Breath Analyzer (Test your alcohol levels). This entire toolkit is packed in an 1oz device.

The creators have also provided an API for developers who wish to extend the device’s capabilities.

Its a powerful, wearable and user-friendly Bluetooth enabled device for field technicians and for those worried about the quality of their home’s atmosphere. Works great with any smartphone. Check it out in the Apple Gazette Kickstarter store here.

The Kickstarter store has always produced great quality products and with Apple products’ popularity, the Apple Gazette Kickstarter is a great place to find neat and useful gadgets for your devices and everyday life. Check out the store here.
