In a surprising turn of events, a well-known Russian pro-war blogger, Igor Girkin, also known as Igor Strelkov, was arrested in Moscow. Girkin, who has been critical of President Vladimir Putin and the military’s actions in Ukraine, was taken from his home by security agents and charged with “extremist activity.” This arrest comes in the wake of the Wagner mercenary rebellion, and its timing suggests that the Kremlin’s tolerance for dissent is diminishing. In this article, we will delve into the details of Girkin’s arrest, his background, and the potential implications of this event.

Igor Girkin, a former KGB officer, rose to prominence for his involvement in Russia’s seizure of Crimea and his role in the downing of Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 in eastern Ukraine. He served as a defense minister in the separatist Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) and played a part in the conflicts in Chechnya, Transnistria, and Bosnia. Girkin, who goes by the nom de guerre Igor Strelkov, is part of a group of pro-war bloggers known as “milbloggers” who initially supported the invasion but have become increasingly critical of the military’s actions in Ukraine.

In recent months, Girkin’s criticisms of the Russian state and President Putin himself have intensified. He co-founded an ultra-nationalist political group called the Angry Patriots Club and warned of “grave internal political changes of a catastrophic character” in Russia. After the Wagner rebellion, Girkin openly called for Putin to either take leadership in creating war-ready conditions in Russia or transfer power to someone capable of doing so. However, it was his scathing post on his Telegram channel, where he referred to Putin as a “lowlife” and a “cowardly bum,” that may have been the final straw for the Kremlin.

On Friday, security agents arrived at Girkin’s apartment and took him into custody. He was charged with “extremist activity” under Part 2 of Article 280 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. If found guilty, Girkin could face up to five years in prison. The arrest coincided with an attempt to divide the Angry Patriots Club over differing opinions about the Wagner rebellion. Girkin’s associates, in a post on his Telegram account, expressed concern about the compromised freedom of speech in Russia and suggested that the government was departing from basic values.

The arrest of Igor Girkin raises questions about internal disputes within the Kremlin and the government’s response to dissent. Miroslava Reginskaya, Girkin’s wife, stated that confidence in Russia’s freedom of speech was being eroded, indicating a growing departure from basic values. Tatiana Stanovaya, a senior fellow at the Carnegie Russia Eurasia Center, believes that Girkin’s arrest is a result of the Ministry of Defense reasserting control after the Wagner rebellion. While it is unlikely that there will be widespread repression against “angry patriots,” the most vocal dissenters may face prosecution as a cautionary example to others.

Representatives from Ukraine’s defense intelligence view Girkin’s arrest as a sign of internal disputes within the Kremlin. Andriі Yusov, a representative for Ukraine’s defense intelligence, pointed out that Girkin’s arrest is paradoxical, considering that he has never acted as an independent figure before. Yusov also highlighted the fact that Girkin was detained while Wagner founder Prigozhin remained free. This perspective suggests that the arrest may be a manifestation of an active phase of internal confrontation within the Kremlin.

The arrest of Igor Girkin, a prominent pro-war Russian blogger, has sent shockwaves through the online community. With his criticisms of President Putin and the Russian government, Girkin had become a vocal figure, especially after the Wagner rebellion. The charges of “extremist activity” against him and the timing of his arrest raise concerns about freedom of speech in Russia and potential internal disputes within the Kremlin. While the exact implications of Girkin’s arrest remain uncertain, it is clear that this event has far-reaching consequences for both the Russian government and the online community.

When you list a vehicle for sale online, you usually have two main goals. You want to sell the vehicle for the highest price possible, and you want to sell the vehicle as quickly as possible.

But to do that, you need to get more people to actually see the listing. If it’s buried on page 15 of search results, or if it’s occluded by much more competitive listings, you’re not going to get the results you’re seeking.

So how can you get more attention for your online auto listing?

List on Multiple Different Platforms

If you’re an individual selling a personal vehicle, you’ll have a multitude of different listing options.
You can try to advertise the vehicle with your own budget. Also, you can partner with an online listing platform like We Buy Any Car. Also, you can partner with an online listing platform. Or you can work with a dealer to simply trade the vehicle in.
If you want to maximize your chances of achieving your goals, it’s important to list your vehicle on multiple platforms simultaneously. This way, you’ll appeal to different target audiences, reach a larger number of people, and possibly appear multiple times to the same searchers, capitalizing on the mere exposure effect.

If you’re a dealership or if you’re selling multiple cars, this can work in your favor as well. You may have a main website or platform where you do most of your selling. But it can’t hurt to also list your vehicles on a separate platform – especially if that platform tends to get more traffic than yours does.

Direct Traffic to Your Listings

Next for your online auto listing work on directing traffic to it. You might have to pay a bit of money (and/or invest a bit of time) to make this happen. But it’s often worth it.

These are just a few of the options you can utilize:

 • Build links. First, you can practice link building. Link building is a strategy that revolves around constructing links to a given webpage on other, external sources. The link serves as a primary highway, sending referral traffic to your desired destination – as long as it’s placed in a relevant way for your audience.

Over time, links can also work to increase the domain authority and page authority of the destination, increasing the likelihood of that page appearing in search engine results pages (SERPs). This is a long-term strategy that takes a while to show its true potential, so it may be best reserved for dealerships and other multi-vehicle sellers.

 • Pay for ads. You could also consider paying for ads directly. Google, Facebook, Bing, and dozens of other online platforms make it easy to sign up for an account and start placing pay-per-click (PPC) ads. The idea here is that you’ll only pay for the people who actually click on your ad, so you’re practically guaranteed traffic to your target page.
 • Share on social media. Of course, if you don’t want to spend any money, you could also simply share your page on social media. If you have a decent following, you could immediately get more attention for your listing. If you ask your friends to share your listing with their friends, you can multiply your reach even further.

Polish the Listing

Spending time making the listing itself more attractive is also a good idea. If your information is prominent and attractive, it will get more attention – even if it’s mixed in with other listings. Plus, people will be more likely to share it with others they know.

These are some of the best things you can do:

 • Take amazing photos. First, try to take the best photos you can; depending on the vehicle you’re selling, it may even be worth hiring a professional photographer. Make your listing’s primary image something original, that shows off the vehicle’s luster and prime condition. In the body of the listing, include several photos from different angles as well.
 • Optimize your copy. Next, optimize the copy of your advertising. You should provide ample description of the vehicle and include several keywords and phrases that your target buyers might search for when looking for a vehicle, optimizing for search engines.
 • Be as detailed as possible. It pays to include details in your ad, even if those details may not seem important. Being thorough shows that you care about transparency and want your buyers to be informed – it’s a great way to build initial trust.

Using these strategies won’t guarantee that your vehicle will sell the next day, or that you’ll get the highest possible purchase price. However, they should increase the number of people who see your auto listing – and hopefully, help you build some momentum in the process.

Have you ever wondered where websites go once the owner stops updating them? Ghost websites are websites that are rarely, if ever, updated. They are abandoned, but where do they end up?

Our first website is arguably the most famous ghost website. The Space Jam was vacant for over 20 years. When Space Jame 2 hit theaters, the website was updated once again. The Original Space Jam was released in 1996, and its promotional website was untouched for the most part once the movie was out. It does not look like much, but the icons do still work. The catalogs it brings you to are pillars of the 90s with postcards, desktop screensavers, audio clips, and more. The newsletter has not been updated in years, but the site itself is still alive and well.

On the flip side, the 2021 website for Space Jam 2: A New Legacy is curated for a new generation of Space Jam fans. The site still has the same 1996 look and feel. However, it has been updated to fit the current age of social media trends, games, desktop backgrounds, and virtual posters.

10 More Ghost Websites

 1. Ghost Websites: Fogcam

The San Fransico Fogcam has been showing views of the San Fransisco State University community since 1994. The webcam is still live, albeit grainy. It currently sits looking across a quad. However, the webcam has been moved several times over the years. This was meant to keep the University from taking it down. The site was last updated in 2021. The update uploaded a few links to various articles naming the webcam and its history. Overall, there are very minimal updates to the site.

If you have ever been in an on-again, off-again relationship, you know those minimal updates end up on the ghosted list every time.

 1. You’ve Got Mail

The famous 90s romcom You’ve Got Mail, abandoned its website like its viewers abandoned the movie’s communication style. The online chat room style has been upgraded to social media direct messages, and discourse servers. While the site is still periodically updated to keep up with which streaming platform has the movie available, it was still left in the 90s.

 1. OJ Simpson Trial

Another ghost website is dedicated to the OJ Simpson Trial was one of the most followed trials in history. When it began, social media was not the giant that it is today. There were no trending hashtags to follow, no Reddit pages, and no Facebook groups to join. Entire websites had to be built for others to follow along. The CNN site has not been updated since 1995 after the trial was over in 1994. It is interesting to go back and look through all the statements, evidence, and other captivating moments of the trial piece by piece.

 1. Ghost Websites Washington Post Year in Review

1996 was quite a year for the Washing Post with former President Clinton winning his second term, the Atlanta Olympics, various trials, and other events. The Year in Review site has not been edited since the ‘96 launch, and the links do not work besides those that lead to internal Washington Post articles.

 1. Dole/Kemp Presidential Campaign

In the same way, a website was made to cover a famous trial and serve as promotion for an upcoming movie, there were also websites made to serve for a political campaign. The Dole/Kemp campaign of 1996 was the one-stop shop for everything a potential voter would need to know. It gave the option to read about both Bob Dole and his running mate Jack Kemp, as well as make buttons, and follow him along the campaign trail. Of course, once the run was over for the Dole/Kemp team, the website has been abandoned since.

Where Do Ghost Websites Go?

Just as there are new websites popping up daily, there are also many being abandoned, or ghosted, each day. Once the website is abandoned it still lives there, on the vast web. There is an option to take down a website and create the error code that populates when you attempt to pull up a disabled website. Search engines will begin to push the site further and further down until it has all but vanished. The ghost websites themselves will be deleted if the owners decided not to renew their domain names. With that being said, owners of long-lost website domains may very well be renewing their domain name to keep the nostalgia around.

Conclusion

Ghost websites take up space on the corners of the web we tend to forget about, but they are there. Sometimes, as mentioned, it is fun to stroll down memory lane and check in on your childhood websites, or those with funny names. You never know what you will find out. Take a dive into the 10 new ghost websites you have added to your knowledge bank and see what you can discover.

If you have ever had the overwhelming sense of “I don’t know what to do with my life”, then this blog is for you. When you are not sure what to do next with your life, or you have come to a fork in the road, you have some options.

Finding your purpose

It is not always an easy question to ask yourself, and you may not know the answer. In fact, it is more probable than not that you will not know the answer to that question. The goal in finding your purpose is finding things you truly love to do, and things that bring you joy, rather than doing things you feel like you have to do. After all, there is a difference between living to work and working to live. This can easily include day-to-day activities and not just your typical 9-5 job.

Weekend Getaway

Spend some time alone, or with some friends on a weekend retreat. Sometimes what you need most is a change of scenery. This change does not have to be permanent, in fact, a long weekend may just do the trick. Spending time alone with your thoughts, a journal, and maybe a book to read might clear your mind. If being alone is not your thing, you may choose to grab your group of friends and escape to an Airbnb™ in a mountain town across the state.

Learn a new hobby

Learning a new hobby can be the ticket to your personal reset. At the beginning of the pandemic, when confined to their homes, people began to do a bit of self-reflection. Those reflections turned into many people around the country finding something new about themselves, whether that be a new hobby because they were bored, or a new skill that they have taught themselves to do via trial and effort, and a few YouTube videos.

A few new hobbies to try:

 1. Knitting
 2. Reading
 3. Woodworking
 4. Painting

Write down your feelings

Although in many cases it can be easier said than done, writing out your feelings can help to process them in a way that your mind and body understand. Sometimes you may not have the words to express your feelings about a specific time in your life, or a situation that has gotten you to the point where you are unsure where to go next. Beginning to write will give you the opportunity to find those words, even if they do not come right away. You may even begin to access yourself and find your strengths and weaknesses.

Start Therapy

The stigma around mental health has gotten much better over the years, but there is still a great deal left to overcome with the thoughts immediately surrounding therapy. You do not have to be a danger to yourself or others, or “sick” to see a therapist. Mental health means being healthy all the time in your mind, not only when you are not feeling great or have a bad day. It means being able to withstand the hard days and weeks at work, the busy season of life, and the happiest of times all at the same time.

Therapy is also about simply having someone to talk to. Maybe you are in a season of life where it is hard to find time to have the long conversations with your best friend that you have become so accustomed to throughout the years. Different seasons of life produce different emotions and feelings for different people, and that is perfectly okay. It is encouraged, even. All the more reason to have a chat with someone.

Wrap Up

You may not know what is coming next in life, but as you can see from this blog, getting started with a new hobby, taking a weekend getaway, or getting set up with a new therapist can be the start of an amazing new journey in your life. You will never know exactly what is coming next in life, and that is half the fun.

Looking for part-time remote work can feel like a never-ending list of options, while also feeling like there are no options at all. Adults looking for a part-time job have countless backgrounds, lifestyles, and experiences. Some may be trying to finish school, but need a job to help support them financially. Others might want a change of pace from their stay-at-home mom life and want a breath of fresh air while the kids are at school, or napping. The scenarios are endless. The beauty of most part-time jobs is the experience and expertise needed to get started.

Applying for and accepting a job is the easy part of nailing down a part-time job. The hard part is tackling what I like to call the necessities of landing your perfect part-time remote job.

Necessities

1. Updated Resume

2. Profiles and Freelance Options

3. Intended schedule

4. Desired field

The benefits of picking up a remote, part-time job range from flexibility and freedom to work-life balance.

Resume

It’s important to keep your resume up to date, no matter how long you have been in your career. For younger adults and students, it is good practice to update your resume at least once per year as you are gaining so many new experiences throughout a relatively quick timeline. For others, you can most likely get away with updating a bit less frequently, as long as it was caught up with the most important stapes such as the latest job, educational completion, or even awards.

Profiles

If you do not already have a profile on LinkedIn, now is the time to do it. It is not only a great place to find job postings, but it is a networking tool for recruiters, those on the job hunt, and seasoned professionals looking to connect with others in their geographical area or career field. On LinkedIn, you can share your updated resume on your profile so others can view your experience. This is extremely helpful when applying to any job postings, or connecting with potential employers.

Other platforms that offer job postings, and typically have the option to upload your resume to a profile include Flex jobs, Indeed, Glassdoor, and others.

Freelance

Another option for part-time work is freelancing. Freelancers essentially create their own schedules each week/month by completing projects for different companies. With sites like Fiverr and Upwork, it is easy to put your skills out for employers to see and can be matched with projects perfect for you. Freelancing is attractive to busy moms with a knack for digital marketing, retired English teachers, and everyone in between.

Intended Schedule

Part-time jobs obviously do not come with the infamous 9-5 schedule. But the vast majority do come with a set schedule that does not vary much from week to week. Exceptions to this general rule are found in freelancers and remote workers. Though you are searching for a remote job, It is still a good idea to have an idea of what types of hours you will be able to work, that way both your and your possible employer’s expectations are accurately set.

Desired Field and Salary

Before you begin your search you need to have an honest conversation with yourself about how much money you are expecting from a part-time job, and what field you are striving to go into. Once you have an answer to both of those questions, you will need to research if you are in the ballpark of typical wages for that field in part-time jobs. For example, if you are hoping for $50 per hour while working in a customer service call center, you may need to adjust your expectations.

Wrap Up

Figuring out what you want from a part-time job, as well as what you can offer them are half the battle. After taking care of the necessities listed in this blog, you can truly begin your search by using all of the steps and tools above to find a fitting remote part-time job.

Planning a wedding is a whirlwind of emotions, and having a website to help you out on some of the more tedious tasks can be a lifesaver. While you can always start from scratch with a DIY wedding site from Wix, Squarespace, WordPress, etc, here are 7 wedding website examples curated with your special day in mind.

There are several free options to choose from and a few paid sites to help you bring your wedding planning dreams to life.

 • Joy

With Joy, you can easily create everything needed for your wedding planning process. This includes save the dates, invitations, RSVPs, registries, and more. One of my favorite features is the ability to input personalized schedules so your bridal party will always know what to do and where to go without feeling like they have to bother the bride or groom with a billion questions. Your bridal party and beyond can each have multiple things to RSVP to, rather than having to send out multiple invitations, it can all be on one clean interface.

 • The Knot

The Knot gives you the keys to create and bring your beautiful love story to life in a digital world. You get to start off by sharing the story of how you met your fiance and the life you have built together so far. You’ll be able to hold all your registries under one roof so you can add anything and everything you want. The Knot also allows you to easily live stream your wedding, making it possible for your guests from near and far to feel involved even if they couldn’t physically make your special day.

 • Zola

Choose your design, add your registry, add traditional pieces with hard-copy invitations, and save the dates. If you choose to send your invitations by snail mail, Zola offers competitive pricing on the invites and includes free addressing and envelopes. If you’ve ever sent out a large number of physical invitations of any kind, you know that having them addressed beforehand would be the ultimate time, and hand-cramp, saver.

 • Minted

Minted has a different feel than other wedding websites. Their website templates are designed by independent artists, making sure your website and invitations stand out in the crowd. Minted’s interface works well with smartphones. This makes it easy to have your wedding planning in your back pocket whenever you need it. It’s also helpful for your bridal party and friends to have the events they have or need to RSVP to.

 • Wedding Wire

Wedding Wire is another one of our wedding website examples. It is completely free despite having access to a mobile app, seat chart builder, budget and cost guides, color generator, and more. Everything you could possibly need for your wedding is in one place. Plus, it even has a built-in checklist for you to keep track of. A personal favorite tool of mine is the hotel block help widget. It serves almost as a travel agent to find the best deals on hotels near your venue for multiple guests.

 • Websites

With 3 different pans, Lite, Standard, and Pro, Websites allow you to go a step further with customization. Whether you want a website that does all or just a little, you can find it with 1 of these 3 plans.

Lite: Free

This plan offers access to all templates, registry links, 12 months of free domain hosting, and endless support via email and chat. A clean and simple layout to give your wedding guests all the information they need to attend.

Standard: $99 (one-time)

Upgrading to the standard plan gets you paperless invitations and RSVP forms for the events leading up to and including the wedding. It will also separate your events into different RSVP groups. You have the option to add your partner as a user, and will be upped to 24 months of free domain hosting.

Pro: $199 (one-time)

The highest tier will grant you access to additional help widgets. This includes a seating chart builder, reports, checklists, multiple language settings, and up to 5 users.

 • Riley and Grey

Riley and Grey comes with 2 payment options at $35 per month by going month-to-month. Or a one-time payment of $240 for a year. The features do not change no matter which plan you choose. They both included a custom domain, mobile app, as well as white glove professional help wherever needed. For planning features, it has RSVP categorization and keeps addresses for future use, i.e. thank you cards. Plus it has tons of different design avenues and a full rundown of print hard copy options available.

Conclusion

You now have a firm grasp of the features typically given from these wedding website examples. After asking yourself what you want to see in the planning process, you are sure to find the best website for your big day.

]]>
Someone else’s trash truly can be your treasure, especially when referencing website domains. Similar to properties, clothes, and furniture, taking something used and transforming it to have a new life from an aged domain can be extremely rewarding.

Just as the name indicates, an aged domain is a domain that was previously used as a website, and thus has accumulated backlinks that link to the site. These backlinks are valuable. So hosting a blog from an aged domain helps when starting a blog to attract new readers and viewers. Those backlinks will also help your ranking on Google for your new blog to take over the site.

The Aging Process

Domains do not simply go from being used to aging overnight. The domains can become expired. But, until the standard 30-day expiration period is up, they can be renewed by their owner. They become aged once that 30-day expiration period is over, and they hit the market with the same value as abandoned real estate.

Think of flipping the worst house in the best neighborhood, it can turn their property values completely around. The same thing happens with aged domains.

Aged domains are typically cheaper to purchase than brand new domains. Although your wallet will thank you, it will be much more work on your end to make sure you purchase an aged domain that is right for you and your blog.

How to Buy an Aged Domain

If you want to rebuild a site to fit your blog, buying an aged domain helps with some of the hard work. However, since the domain has expired, hence the term “aged domain”, you will want to double-check on a few things.

 1. What is the actual age of the domain, and when did the site expire? This is where you can check to see if its life was fruitful or went unused for the most part.
 2. Do the backlinks work and are they credible?
 3. Check for potential penalties from search engines

These steps will bring a bit more labor into the process. But in the end, it tends to be well worth it.

With aged domains and creating a blog, it’s important to double down on those links. For example, if your blog is about cooking, but all of the backlinks are sports-related, you may not have a winner.

In regards to potential penalties, it’s important to check for any red flags within the domain. Some examples of red flags in an aged domain would be:

 1. Low-Quality links – This comes into play when doing your backlink research
 2. Possible manual penalties from Google -This could limit organic traffic to the site due to the links resulting in spam, blank pages, or errors.

When you have done your due diligence, an aged domain gets you high-quality links from high-authority sites that you would otherwise not be able to get starting a blog from scratch.

Ranking

Whether you are brand new to blogging, or you are adding another domain to your collection, ranking is a term you will constantly see or refer to yourself. The way your blog ranks is the ease at which it is found on search engines. By purchasing a quality aged domain, you can give yourself a boost in those rankings because the domain is already established.

When a domain starts from scratch, there are no rankings to go off of. So you need to earn those rankings and search results by growing your audience and website traffic.

Wrap Up

Buying an aged domain to use for a blog is a lot of work. It takes more effort on your end than simply buying a brandnew domain. Your personality is unique to you, just like your coworkers’ personality is unique to them. If you have ever taken a personality test or visited a personality database, you may have a number or set of letters to describe who you are on paper to the rest of the world, and why you operate the way you do.

The Myers-Briggs test gives a 4 letter personality indicator that is essentially self-reported. You answer 90 questions on a Likert scale to determine a 4-letter personality type.

Your 4 letters could be 1 of 16 different possibilities.

brown wooden puzzle game board

The 1st letter is either E for Extrovert or I for Introvert.

The 2nd letter is either N for Intuition or S for Sensing

The 3rd letter is either F for Feeling or T for the Thinking

The 4th letter is either J for Judging or P for Perceiving

For example, a possible personality type could be INFP, INTJ, ESTJ, etc,.

Another popular personality test is your Enneagram type. This test also consists of 100 questions to determine if you are one of 9 personality types. You can have one main personality and the wings of others. For example, you could be a type 7 with an 8 wing. According to the list below, that would be an Enthusiast, with a Challenger wing.

 1. Reformer
 2. Helper
 3. Achiever
 4. Individualist
 5. Investigator
 6. Loyalist
 7. Enthusiast
 8. Challenger
 9. Peacemaker

So why do these personality types and tests have to do with writing?

Understanding not only yourself, but others all around you, can produce more thought paths to travel down, and more questions to dig into. As a writer, you are always looking for more perspectives and ways of thinking. This database gives you just that. Think of any movie, tv show, sports team, book, or famous person in general. More likely than not, you will be able to see not only what the character’s personality type is, but you will be able to see what the actual celebrity’s personality type is that played that character and how they are different or similar.

The personality database makes it easy to put your own personality types into an account and find others with those same types. For example, if you have a Myers Brigs Type as INFP, and an enneagram 6, you can create a profile surrounding the two. There are also options to go even deeper and more technical into the different personality types.

Community

After creating your profile you can become a part of a community of people who are just as intrigued by personality types as you are. You can connect with others who share, in a way, the way your brain works, and those who are polar opposites no matter how different they may seem from you on the surface. Personalities bring people together and can showcase differences and similarities in a way that is unique to almost any other platform or idea. As a database, it caters to those that love statistics while also catering to creative and non-linear lovers.

Using Your Personality

You can obviously use others’ personalities as subjects or as references to your work, but using your own personality as a tool to help you write is a different story entirely. Taking your personality type into account, whether that be your Myers Briggs type, or your Enneagram number, can be a game changer in your productivity.

Intuitive versus Sensing types can approach writing completely differently. For example, an intuitive person may have a more chaotic timeline and outlining process. A sensing writer may have a clean-cut and detailed outlining process. This does not mean one is better than the other, but it does mean their brains work through processes differently. The intuitive writer may become more stressed with clean-cut lines rather than the non-linear framework they typically thrive under. The same goes for each of the 16 different Myers Briggs variations, and Enneagram types.

Benefits and Limitations of Personality Tests

Diving into the world of personality tests can be like opening a new book – it’s full of insights, surprises, and a fair share of plot twists. Let’s navigate through the landscapes of these intriguing assessments to understand their pros and cons.

Benefits of Personality Tests

First up, let’s talk perks. Personality tests are like mirrors giving us a glimpse into the nooks and crannies of our psyche. They can illuminate aspects of ourselves that we were previously unaware of or had not fully understood. This self-awareness can be a game-changer in personal development, fostering growth and self-improvement.

In the realm of relationships – whether personal or professional – understanding different personality types can be akin to learning a new language. It improves communication and empathy, allowing us to see the world from different perspectives. For writers, this is gold. Understanding varied personality types can enrich character development and add depth to storytelling.

In professional settings, these tests can be the keys to a more harmonious workplace. They help in team building, highlighting each member’s strengths and potential areas for growth. This can lead to more effective collaboration and less conflict, as everyone understands a bit more about what makes their teammates tick.

Limitations of Personality Tests

Now, let’s address the elephant in the room – the limitations. While personality tests can provide valuable insights, they’re not all-knowing oracles. One major limitation is their reliance on self-reporting. Just like sometimes we might not be entirely honest about how many cookies we snuck from the cookie jar, people might not always provide accurate responses on these tests, either intentionally or subconsciously.

Furthermore, these tests can sometimes put us in boxes, labeling us as one thing or another. But humans are like onions (cue the Shrek reference) – we have layers. Being categorized as an ‘Introvert’ or an ‘Extrovert’ doesn’t capture the full spectrum of our personalities. We can behave differently in different contexts, and our moods and motivations can change over time.

Another point to consider is the potential for these tests to reinforce stereotypes or biases. For instance, labeling someone as a ‘Thinker’ versus a ‘Feeler’ could lead to misconceptions about their emotional depth or decision-making capabilities.

Lastly, while personality tests can be insightful, they should not be the sole basis for making significant decisions, especially in professional settings like hiring. Just because someone fits a certain personality type doesn’t mean they’re automatically the best fit for a job or a team.

In the grand scheme of things, personality tests are tools – useful, but with a manual and not without flaws. They can open doors to deeper self-understanding and interpersonal relationships if used wisely. But remember, they’re just one piece of the puzzle. So, whether you’re an INFP, an ESTJ, a Type 7 with an 8 wing, or anything in between, use these tests as a guide, not a definitive judgment. After all, the human spirit is far too colorful and diverse to be fully captured by a few letters or numbers.

Tips for Interpreting and Applying Test Results

Ah, the moment of truth – you’ve taken the plunge, answered all the questions, and now you’ve got your results. But what next? Here are some friendly nudges on how to interpret and apply your personality test results without turning your world upside down.

1. Treat Your Results Like a Map, Not a Verdict

Think of your personality test results as a treasure map, not a life sentence. They can guide you to understand more about yourself but remember, you’re the captain of your ship. Use the map to explore, not to confine yourself to a box labeled ‘X marks the personality.’

2. Look Beyond the Label

So, you’re an INFP or an ESTJ. Cool! But what does that actually mean? Dive deeper into the descriptions and explanations. Understanding the nuances behind your personality type can provide insights into your preferences, strengths, and areas for growth. It’s like knowing you like music but discovering you have a penchant for 80’s rock ballads – it’s specific and actionable.

3. Compare and Contrast

It’s tempting to read your results and think, “This is me!” But pause and reflect. Do these traits ring true across different situations? Compare your results with real-life instances. It’s like fitting puzzle pieces – some will match perfectly, others might need a wiggle, and some might belong to a different puzzle altogether.

4. Share and Discuss

Sharing your results with friends, family, or colleagues can open up new avenues of understanding and communication. It’s like revealing your secret recipe; it can lead to shared tips, tweaks, and even better outcomes. Just remember, everyone’s recipe is different, and that’s okay!

5. Use Your Strengths Wisely

Identifying your strengths is one of the best perks of personality tests. Lean into them, whether it’s your empathy, analytical skills, or ability to lead. It’s like having a superpower – use it for good, in situations where it shines, and remember that every superhero has a support team.

6. Address Your Challenges

No one’s perfect, and that’s a good thing! If your results highlight areas for growth, tackle them head-on. It’s like finding a weak spot in your fortress; shore it up not with dread, but with constructive bricks of effort and learning.

7. Revisit and Reflect

You’re not the same person you were five years ago, and you won’t be the same five years from now. Revisit your personality test results periodically. Reflect on changes, growth, and new directions. It’s like re-reading a favorite book and discovering new layers each time.

8. Apply With Caution

Thinking of using your results to make a big decision, like a career change or relationship move? Pump the brakes and combine these insights with other factors like your experiences, skills, and advice from trusted sources. Personality tests are one tool in your toolbox, not the whole kit.

In the grand mosaic of life, personality test results are just a few pieces – vibrant, unique, and useful in understanding the bigger picture. Use them to navigate the complex, beautiful world of human interaction and self-discovery, but remember, the most exciting parts of you might just be the ones that defy categorization. So, explore, apply, and above all, stay true to the multifaceted masterpiece that is you.

Debunking Myths about Personality Tests

Ah, the world of personality tests – it’s as mystifying as it is enlightening. But just like any famed treasure trove, it’s surrounded by myths and tall tales. Let’s put on our detective hats and sift through these legends to uncover the truth. Buckle up; it’s time for some myth-busting!

Myth 1: Personality Tests Can Put You in a Box

Ever heard the one about personality tests locking you into a box, never to see the light of diverse behavior again? Let’s clear the air: these tests are more like GPS systems than iron cages. They offer directions and insights but don’t dictate every turn you take. Remember, you’re the driver, not the passenger in the journey of self-discovery.

Myth 2: Your Results Are Your Destiny

Next up, the prophecy myth – that your personality test results are the be-all and end-all of your existence. Spoiler alert: they’re not. Think of them as the beginning of a novel, not the epilogue. Your results are a snapshot, a starting point for growth and learning, not a final verdict on your life’s trajectory.

Myth 3: All Personality Tests Are Created Equal

Ah, the equality myth. While it’s a noble concept, not all personality tests are cut from the same cloth. Some are backed by decades of research, while others are more akin to picking your favorite color and finding out which vegetable you resemble. Before trusting a test, look into its background, research base, and what psychologists have to say about it.

Myth 4: A Good Personality Test Will Solve All Your Problems

Then there’s the magic wand myth – the belief that a personality test will wave away life’s challenges. As much as we wish for that easy button, personality tests are more like maps than magic wands. They can guide you and offer insight, but navigating the journey? That’s all you.

Myth 5: Personality Tests Are Just for Fun

On the flip side, we have the trivialization myth: that personality tests are mere party tricks. While it’s true that some tests are designed for entertainment, others are powerful tools for understanding yourself and others. They can enhance communication, aid personal development, and even help in career choices. So, while they can be fun, they can also be profoundly useful.

Myth 6: Your Personality Type Never Changes

Last but not least, the immutability myth. This one claims that once you’ve got your results, your personality is set in stone. But here’s a little secret: people change. As you journey through life, your experiences, relationships, and introspections can shape and shift your personality. While core traits may remain stable, nuances can and do evolve.

Final Thoughts

There you have it – myths debunked and truths unveiled. Remember, personality tests can be insightful tools on your quest for self-discovery and improvement. But like any tool, their effectiveness lies in how you use them. So take those results, explore their depths, but always keep a sprinkle of skepticism and a whole lot of self-compassion in your back pocket. After all, you’re more than just a series of letters or a number on a scale. You’re a wonderfully complex individual, full of growth, change, and potential.

Wrap up

If you are a personality connoisseur and want to use it for your next writing project, this personality database can be the answer to all of your questions. Incorporating the Personality Database into future writing projects can force you to not only think outside of the box but learn more about yourself in the process.

Personality Database FAQs

Is the PDB app safe?

Diving into the world of personality databases is like embarking on an internet adventure. Like any online expedition, safety comes first! The PDB app generally maintains standard data protection practices. However, as with all apps, it’s wise to safeguard your personal information. Keep your wits about you, review their privacy policies, and maybe don’t spill all your beans in one go.

What’s the most common personality type?

Picture a room full of people. If it feels like most of them are harmonizing rather than clashing, you might be in the company of ISFJs – often cited as one of the most common personality types. Known for their kindness and practicality, they’re like the comfortable sneakers of personality types: reliable, understated, and everywhere.

What does the 16 Personalities test?

Imagine personality types as ice cream flavors – there are classics and then some quirky mixes. The 16 Personalities test scoops out your inner workings based on four dimensions: Introversion/Extroversion, Sensing/Intuition, Thinking/Feeling, and Judging/Perceiving. It’s like a personal flavor profile – are you more of a mint chocolate chip or a rocky road?

What is the rarest personality type?

In the grand masquerade of personalities, the INFJ is that elusive, mysterious figure in the corner. Known as the Advocate, this personality type is a rare gem, making up a tiny slice of the population pie. They’re like the unicorn frappuccinos of personality types – unique and with a touch of magic.

What are the 3 rarest personality types?

If personality types were collector’s items, the INFJ, INTJ, and ENTJ would be the vintage, hard-to-find ones. Each unique in their blend of traits, these types are like the limited-edition action figures still in their original packaging – rare and prized by those who understand their value.

What is the rarest personality type for a female?

Ladies in the personality type world have their own rare jewel – the INTJ. Known as the Architect, this type is like finding an original, mint-condition, vintage Chanel bag at a garage sale – exceedingly uncommon but immensely valuable and admired.

Which personality type is the most attractive?

Attractiveness is in the eye of the beholder, but if personality types were at a dance, ENFPs might be leading the conga line. Known as the Campaigner, their charisma, creativity, and enthusiasm can light up a room. But remember, every personality type has its own unique allure!

What personality type is the hardest to be?

Walking in someone else’s shoes can be tough, especially if they’re tight and full of pebbles. Each personality type has its challenges. For INTJs and INFJs, navigating a world that values extroversion can be like walking upstream. It’s not that the shoes are ill-fitting; it’s just that the path is a little more rugged.

Can your personality type change?

Think of your personality as a river – mostly consistent, but always flowing and reshaping over time. Major life events, experiences, and personal growth can nudge your personality in new directions. So, while the core might remain the same, the nuances of your personality can evolve, just like a river carving through the landscape of life.

You do not have to have a college degree or be a certain age to start making money using your love for writing. Teens can continue to work on their craft while in school or figure out how they want to use their writing talent. If you are looking to find online jobs for teens that love to write, this is the blog for you.

Many places offer jobs for underaged teenagers without years of experience. In fact, these places pride themselves on giving teens the experience they will need and helping them prepare for the future.

Though there are valid reasons that many large corporations are not allowed to pay minors for services, there are still lots of opportunities for teens to earn money and start building their resumes. Here are 8 great places to start, where teens can find an online writing job.

1. Fiverr

Anyone over the age of 13 is able to create a profile on Fiverr. Teens can create service packages, just like every adult on Fiverr, to showcase what they bring to the table. This includes how much you would charge for your services and your elevator speech as to why an employer should go with you for their project. Once you complete a few projects, you can raise your rates to make more money since those are up to you and are not set in stone.

2. Freelancer

Freelancer allows teens that are at least 16 years old to create an account. While they offer the traditional project-style job for freelancers, they also offer contests from employers, meaning freelancers post solutions that are already made, and the employer chooses the one they like the best. This can be tricky for teens that are hoping to make money since that does not guarantee money. It is a fun way to practice your work or dive into something such as a new structure new to try it out.

3. Craigslist

Unlike other sites, there is no minimum age to join Craigslist. But that does not mean teenagers should join without keeping their parents involved. It is very important to keep your parents involved when using a new job platform, or getting involved with a new company. No matter how much sites do to keep the platforms safe, there will always be some that are missed and it is important to keep a lookout. For Craigslist, there isn’t much protection from the site itself. So freelancers are urged to use their common sense to recognize scam postings versus companies truly looking for project help.

4. Hubpages

As long as you have parental consent, Hubpages will allow anyone under 18 to publish their work. You can sign up for the monetization program and sign up to consistently share bits to the world using their platform of an already generated and growing audience.

5. Slice the Pie

People do not always think about music and writing going hand in hand, but this site makes it clear. Slice the Pie is where music and writing come together. It’s a beautiful space for creators to showcase not only their love of music but their writing talent as well.

6. Medium

As another 13 and up platform, Medium lets anyone over the age of 13 gain traction on the platform to showcase their own creative space. Because it is strictly a blogging platform, unless you are enrolled in the Partner Program, you will not receive those benefits.

7. Reddit

Reddit is, essentially, a one-stop shop for anything you could possibly search for on the web. If you are thinking about it, there is almost a 100% chance that there is a subreddit about that topic. For writers and other freelancers, there are jobs posted on Reddit as well. For someone under the age of 18, they will need to filter out any jobs that do not accept underage freelancers. Nonetheless, there are wonderful opportunities available. Like anything else, there will always be scammers or people that search the web trying to ruin someone’s day. It is always important to be careful, especially on bigger and broader sites like Reddit.

8. Start your own

It may go without saying, but starting your own blog can be a money-maker in itself. Though it may take a bit longer than grabbing freelance jobs, starting your own blog will showcase the best and brightest versions of you as a person and a writer to future employers, and university admissions boards. WordPress, Wix, and Bluehost, among others, are great places to start when creating a blog.

Wrap Up

Starting your writing career does not have to wait until a specific milestone. As long as you have your parent’s permission, and are ready to jumpstart your writing journey, there are online jobs for teens to make money and gain experience.

Personal vision statements are helpful for keeping track of your long-term goals. It can also be a guiding factor to keeping you on track for your short-term goals. While they envelop several important aspects, personal vision statements are fairly short, averaging 30-50 words. More than that and you become too wordy or may lose your audience.

In the middle of a job hunt, you may ask why a vision statement is important to this journey. The answer is simple, personal vision statements help to keep track of your goals, both long-term and short-term. It showcases everything about you, including your own goals, values, and skills. It can be for personal, or professional development. Though they are most commonly found on resumes, personal vision statements can live in a number of places. These include places such as a blog, your professional networking profiles, or your own personal planner or journal. They do not have to be public statements, but they are always welcome publicly.

Importance

Personal vision statements often serve as a sense of direction, like a compass through stressful times. When you lose sight of what you are searching for or working towards, a personal vision statement can help orient you back to the goals you previously set. They can serve as an agent of accountability and can aid in decision-making for difficult points in life. For the job hunt, it gives a clear and easy outline of what kind of employee a potential employer is getting. For personal use, the vision statement will be a constant reminder of who you are now, and who you are striving to be.

How to Write a Personal Vision Statement

 • Plan It

The planning phase of writing a personal vision statement involves brainstorming your values, skills, goals, and what you want to see from yourself and the world around you. Since this is just the brainstorming process, you don’t have to worry about keeping it short and simple, that’s what the editing process is for. At this point, you are strictly working on getting your ideas from your brain to your paper.

 • Edit

The long thought process above needs to be trimmed down to about 30-40 words, about one paragraph long. It is important to have not only a stern eye when editing but an unbiased eye as well, which can be difficult. You have to try and separate yourself from the writing itself, and put on your editing cap to make it as wonderfully written as possible. Bonus points if you send it to a friend or colleague you trust.

 • Continue to Look Back

Once you have written your personal vision statement, and are happy with it, you can apply it to all aspect that it is needed. The important part of this step is to continue to look back at it whenever you need guidance, or just as an everyday reminder of why you are doing what you are doing, and what your goal is for the journey you are currently on.

 • Change as Needed

Life doesn’t always stay the same, so your personal vision statement doesn’t have to either. When your journey changes it is absolutely within your prerogative to also change your statement too. After all, it is yours. The personal vision statement of a fresh college graduate may be quite different from someone who has been in their field for 25 years.

Wrap Up

Now that you know how to write a personal vision statement, you can begin crafting your own. No matter what journey you are taking part in today, you will be able to look back on your vision statement for guidance and decision-making because your goals and values will be in one place.

There is a blog for everything, including music. If you are a music lover, adding blogs to your toolbox that dive into that love is a great benefit to not only find more music but learn about other people’s love of music. Music blogs are not always about the newest music, they may also showcase the top artists as well as the news that surrounds them.

Some blogs showcase new music of all genres while others stick to their niche. The same goes for popular artists as well as artists that are more underground or are still trying to get on their feet.

Each site typically has an email pop-up that will grant you access to all the latest drops to read immediately. Your playlists will thank you for subscribing to any and/or all of the sites below.

Here are 7 of my favorites

1. Rolling Stone

Rolling Stone is a classic for a reason. They constantly recommend the most popular songs across all genres and dive into the artists as well. They have cemented themselves as experts in the music industry not only by finding the best new songs and showcasing them but to help you discover and get to know the newest stars in the industry.

2. Billboard

As one of the biggest music blog platforms, Billboard produces lists that are shared by millions like the Hot 100 and Global 100. Those songs tend to be the end-all-be-all for that week in the music industry because of how important the lists are. You can find blogs about new songs, upcoming artists, reviews, music videos, and more.

3. Pitchfork

Like Rolling Stone and Billboard, Pitchfork also rolls out new music and the latest news that goes along with it regarding artists or statistics. They pride themselves on being trusted news sources in an otherwise unpredictable setting. They give you access to recaps of merchandise, album drops, tour updates, and music videos for artists that can truly be difficult to keep up with due to the nature of their lives.

4. Earmilk

If you are a fan of underground music, this is the blog for you. Earmilk produces content involving the artists you want to hear about but didn’t know you wanted to hear about them. They have a team of journalists, musicians, and music fans who all share their passion for music by doing the hard work of discovering music so their readers can reap the benefits easily.

5. Under the Radar

Indie fans will love Under the Radar because it contains in-depth interviews with popular, and rising stars of indie artists and bands. It also showcases the latest releases and produces lists to help fans discover the best of Indie at any given moment.

6. Ultimate Classic Rock and Culture

Just as the name indicates, fans of classic rock will be able to feel right at home with this blog. Ultimate Classic Rock and Culture bring fans the latest classic rock updates. It also brings lists, videos, and of course blog posts. They typically share posts 24 hours a day and keep them coming throughout the day. This way fans always have something new to see.

7. This Song is Sick

This Song is Sick started as a small blog in 2010 by a man who wanted to share his favorite music that he found with others. Now, it’s a team full of dedicated music lovers on the hunt to bring fans the best of the best across all genres. Readers can even submit their own or a friend’s music to be featured using their submission process.

Wrap Up

Whether you are in the market for new music, blogs, or both, this list is a guide to the best. No matter what genre or style you are searching for. You may even discover a new favorite that you have been given a chance to yet. That is the beauty of music and sharing music with others.

The post How to Pick a Writing Desk That Works Best for Your Workflow appeared first on The Blog Herald.

]]>
When working from home, having the right tools can make or break your flow of work. As a writer, that flow is sacred and hard to keep if the room around you does not feel balanced. The space you use as your writing desk is a huge part of that balance. Obviously, you do not always have to use the same exact desk and chair to write each day. But, having a dedicated office space to work at is great for consistency. Sure you can go to a coffee shop, or go anywhere to take in a change of scenery while getting some writing done.

And of course, there is nothing wrong with a lap desk in bed on a cold and rainy day every once in a while. Nevertheless, below are 3 essential qualities to look for in a writing desk.

Save some time and buy our recommended writing desk on Amazon.

 • Ergonomic

Including ergonomics in your desk decision requires thought into the best positions for your body, desk, and chair to be in while writing in order to maximize your productivity. To accommodate desks that sit too high or too low on a person, many chairs will change their levels. To go a step further, desks are now being made to cater more closely to the personalization of the perfect working height and adjust to that.

Ergonomically correct furniture is essential for your health, especially if you are working from home. Creating a space that fits into the same area you sleep and eat at can be challenging enough without thinking about the upkeep of your posture.

 • Compatibility with your style

When it comes to your style, desks have no shortage of iniquities. If you are someone who needs to be up and walking, you can purchase a walking pad underneath an adjustable desk, making it so you can sit or walk and work whenever you would like. For writers who prefer a very simple and sleek writing experience, there are plenty of minimally designed desks to cater to the minimalistic working style. On the opposite end of that, desks with lots of bells and whistles are all over the market as well. Do not be afraid to bring your style into your desk choice, because you are the one who will be using it each day.

 • Comfort and Practicality

Finding the perfect writing desk is not just about style and how it visually looks, it’s also about comfort. Is the desk easy to sit at? Does it feel natural? If you feel strange sitting at your own desk, it will be much harder to produce from that space.

Comfort also has to do with the durability of the desk. If the desk does not feel like it can support everything you need in regards to weight or space, then it will automatically not be the desk for you. Having a desk that can feel clean and put together is essential for creating a productive workspace. Financial or lifestyle, accommodating to abrasive. These are some of the blogs to read before 2022 gets away. No need to squander time, you’ve read the title. Here are some of the best blogs to read in 2022. (They’re strong contenders for going into 2023 as well).

Copyblogger

For anyone looking into the world of content marketing look no further than one of the oldest greats on the net. The 2006 blog was introduced via one man’s great passion for content marketing. This passion shining through in the expressed form of teaching rapidly turned into one of the internet’s greatest gems. Now 16 years later, Copyblogger hosts over 500,000 visitors a month and a whopping 8-figure revenue stream.

Copyblogger deals with content marketing. It focuses on crafting impactful copy and serves as a great networking platform. In addition, Copyblogger does work in SEO and provides extensive articles and content that offer insights that take their readers’ work to the next level.

Mashable

Tech News – essentially. Mashable was created in 2005. Based out of Scotland the company covered digital culture, cutting-edge tech news, and content. It has stayed fairly close to its roots, with 45 million monthly views not pulling it away from its core digital premise.

While it can still be summed up as something akin to technology news meets internet culture, meets lucid entertainment with a writ of acerbic underpinnings, it is a key follow for anyone inclined toward any of these spaces. Additionally, Mashable is keen to show a way to build a presence based on a through-line and hybrid intersectionalities of adjacent albeit loosely tithed social circumstances.

Cup of Jo

This is like Mashable if Mashable had a solo, grassroots feel with the feeling it was a labor of love from one lifestyle-focused individual. Basically, a more niche, highly-focused model on how to form a brand around loosely based intersectionalities. Fashion, design, gift advice for loosely based semi-real world archetypes. Heck, I found a delicious-looking recipe for cheesy, cauliflower potatoes – which is a sentence someone only gets the ability to shamelessly say once.

Cup of Jo is a delightful and professional blog, adorned with huge pictures, light aerie palettes, and deep culture-rooted article’s welled with insight and respectfully tasteful isms. This is all done with a split of chic and candor that would make Martha Stewart inclined to share her prison skills.

Tiny Buddha

Tiny Buddha is a wisdom-based wellness and lifestyle blog. It looks to bring you a little peace of mind that can carry you into the next day and beyond. This is a joyous website with enjoyable approaches to letting go, relaxing, healing, and reframing past traumas. It hosts over 7 million followers across platforms and features a membership feature as well.

Little Buddha also has taken to the paper page and bindings of thread and hardback cover. We must remember the Buddha in his true incarnation as a highly influential internet site with photos and mandalas.

Impact Theory

Another blog to read, Impact Theory, is somewhat unique in that it features an equally alive YouTube presence. It hosts many acclaimed and famous figures. They all share their takes on purpose, wealth, and imperative compositions of success. Also, Alex Hormozi, Rob Dyrdeck, and Mark Zuckerburg all appear to do what has essentially become the Joe Rogan Experience for oddly dressed billionaires in their mid-to-late thirties.

Hosted by a similarly prominent figure Tom Bilyeu, Impact Theory serves to provide value via insights from some of the top minds in the business and entrepreneurial field. There are other aspects like online courses, aptly titled a “University.” Regardless, the YouTube content is free and allows us into the minds of those who have all worked for their money and made copious amounts of it.

Think you’ve got the next great American novel rolling around in your head? Not sure where to start? And how long does it take to write a book anyway?

Taking on a project like writing a book can be daunting, even for experienced writers. For beginners, it can be even scarier. How, where, and when do you start?

There are as many different answers to those questions as there are authors and books. But there are some generalities that we can look at that may put you more at ease about getting started.

To begin with, real writers write every day. Essays, blog posts, short stories, just about anything. A place to start might be reading blogs of other writers for inspiration. That inspiration can lead to the daily practice of putting pen to paper, or fingers to the keyboard.

How long does writing a book take? J.R.R. Tolkien took seven years to write The Hobbit. Jack Kerouac wrote his 1957 novel On The Road in less than a month. There are many factors to consider when thinking about a timeline for writing a book.

The type of book

Different genres have different average word counts you will want to follow for marketability. For example, romantic fiction books average 70,000-90,000 words, while books in the fantasy genre average 100,000-150,000 words.

Your availability

Many would-be writers begin their projects while holding down full-time jobs, raising a family, etc. Figuring out a reasonable amount of time per day or per week is something you need to consider at the outset.

Editing

Writing the material is one thing, but after the first draft, books can need several rounds of editing. Some authors handle the first round of edits themselves, and then send it off to a professional editor that can proofread, and edit the copy. This is an especially good idea for novice writers.

Many writers find it helpful to set a goal of a certain number of words a day or week, which makes it easier to forecast how long it will take.

For example, if you commit to writing 400 words a day, 5 days a week, that’s 2000 words per week. At that rate, it’ll take you a little over 8 months to reach that 70,000-word mark.

Whatever formula you come up with, it’ll help lessen the anxiety involved to look at the project in smaller pieces.

If you are truly motivated to get started and get finished, here are some tips that could help speed up the process.

Set a publication date

Having a goal that you can see every day might help you stay on task.

Create an outline of your book

Having a roadmap always helps you get where you’re going.

Create a writing plan

If you break down the numbers as we did earlier, you can set up a plan for how many words a day, a week, or a month you need to hit your deadline goal. This plan will help you structure your time and keep you moving forward. Share your plan with your family as well so that they can respect your writing time.

Create a good space for writing

Find a place that is comfortable, but not too comfortable. Remember that for you, this is work. Maybe it’s in your home, or maybe it must be somewhere away from the distractions of home.

Think of it as a job

Many people dream of being able to work all day in their pajamas, and that works for some. But during the Covid 19 pandemic when many people were forced to work from home, they were more productive when they got up and started their day as if they were still going to the office. Get up and shower, eat breakfast, and dress as though you were going to your regular job.

Don’t edit as you go

Most writers will tell you that once the muse is doing their thing, you don’t want to slow down. Just keep writing! You can always edit later.

Use a dictation app

We’ve all had those instances when a great idea came to us but we weren’t sitting at our writing place. There are apps that will record your voice and then translate the recordings to your computer.

Find someone to hold you accountable

Just like losing weight, writing a book takes discipline. Have someone that can check on you and your writing plan. It would be helpful if this person could also offer encouragement and motivation!

The Chinese proverb says “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” Someone else asked what’s the best way to eat an elephant? “One bite at a time!”

Getting started is an important part of the process. The things listed here are all very general, and as you begin and continue the process you will figure out what ways work best for you.

It isn’t at all shocking to hear that Ben Franklin was among the first content creators. Ben Franklin was the first to do a LOT of things. Interestingly, Franklin did not patent any of his inventions and thought that inventors should share their creations freely. Today’s content creators might differ from the great founding father on the topic. And with the amount of money on the line for today’s creators, it’s understandable. YouTube paid creators more than $15 billion dollars in 2021. With that much content and that much money involved, the questions about copyrights come up pretty quickly. And if you are a YouTube creator, copyright claims are something you obviously would like to avoid. So what should you do if you get a copyright claim? Let’s start at the beginning.

What is a copyright claim

Basically, a copyright claim is another creator saying that you’ve used content that they have created and own the rights to. It could be a video clip, a picture, a piece of audio, etc.

To combat this, YouTube has a Content ID tool, which allows creators to protect their content on the site. Tools like this have come a long way since the early days of the internet when sharing other people’s music or videos was widely accepted by the public.

Music publishers sued early internet juggernaut Napster and won in the early 2000s. This was considered a huge win for songwriters, publishers, and other creators at the time.

But back to YouTube. If your video gets a copyright claim, you will be notified by YouTube. The copyright owner generally has a few options. They can either monetize, block or track the videos on the platform where their material is found to be being used.

Most often the original creator will decide to monetize your video. That means that you can no longer monetize it yourself. But your video can still be seen by your followers, and you’re not in any serious trouble with YouTube.

If you receive a copyright strike, things are more serious. A copyright strike is a request from the copyright owner, that is an official legal action. It results in the video taken down from YouTube altogether. Not only that, but you will also receive a strike against your YouTube channel.

The platform takes these notices very seriously and if you get multiple strikes, you may receive penalties on your channel. These could include restricting features on your channel, and they could also affect your monetization abilities. You could also be required to go to “Copyright School”.

Music copyright claims

Music copyright claims are the most common claims on YouTube. Use nearly any popular song on a video, and you will receive a music copyright claim for the recording. The claims are usually from the record label or distributor.

And while the lyrics of a popular song might be perfect for your video, you’ll save yourself time and trouble by using something else. The good news is there are lots of options and places you can get copyright-free music for your video.

So what steps should you take if you receive one of these copyright claims? First, don’t panic. There are steps that you can take to keep the claim from negatively affecting your channel.

Dispute the claim

If you actually have a license, or the creator’s permission to use the content, you can dispute the claim. This can be frustrating because you followed the rules and did it the right way to begin with. But in the process of disputing the claim, you’ll have the opportunity to provide proof of your license agreement.

Once the process is done, your video will be released, and the monetization of the video restored. More good news, the money that your video earned during the dispute process will also be paid to you.

It is possible that you could receive a fake copyright claim. It’ll be another case of a headache for you, but when you provide proof that the content is 100% yours, your video and account will be restored to normal.

Before filing your dispute, however, double-check your video. Make sure nothing appears no matter how minor, that includes copyrights by another creator.

“Fair Use” defense

Another defense to a copyright claim could be Fair Use. This is a legal doctrine that states there are certain circumstances in which you can reuse copyright-protected permission without permission from the owner.

A common misconception is that you can use any content you want as long as you credit the owner or creator. This is an oft-given defense, but it is absolutely not true. Documented permission is always needed.

This brings up another suggestion. Verbal permission to use someone’s content is not going to get you very far if a dispute arises. Obtain written permission, or find some way to prove they gave you permission.

In conclusion

Copyright infringement is serious. Think about how you would feel if someone was using your work without permission. And while most instances of infringement are innocent mistakes, getting permission or using copyright-free options before you put a lot of work into your project is a smart idea.

Technology has been very kind to the plagiarist.

Where once the plagiarist would have to re-type the paper or repaint the portrait, content theft now is just a mouse click or a keyboard shortcut away. Worse yet, whole technologies have been built around content theft. For example, RSS scraping applications can steal the content from thousands of feeds in a single hour, creating countless spam blogs.

However, technology is a double-edged sword. At the same time it has made content theft easier than ever, it has also empowered content producers with new, more powerful means of monitoring and enforcing their content rights.

No longer does a copyright holder have to wait to accidentally discover plagiarism or hope that a bystander will alert them, no longer is enforcement a long, arduous process. Every Webmaster, no matter how small, has the tools they need to track and stop theft of their content.

It is simply a matter of knowing where to look.

Prevention

Preventing content theft is something of a holy grail. It is the perfect solution, but also the least practical. The tools needed to prevent copying of work generally do more to annoy legitimate users than to stop plagiarists. That being said, there are a few prevention tools worth taking a look at.

Pictureshark – A hard to remove transluscent watermark is by far the most effective method of preventing image theft. Pictureshark is a fast, free and powerful batch image watermarking tool that can process hundreds of images with a variety of effects.

Devpapers .htaccess Hotlink Protection- For Webmasters that pay their bandwidth bills, image hotlinking is a double problem. Not only is it a form of content theft, but also of bandwidth theft as every load of the plagiarist’s page requires the image be pulled from the original server. Webmasters should test to see if their images can be hotlinkied and, if they can, consider editing the .htaccess file to prevent hotlinking or use a PHP script to achieve that end.

Bad Behavior – A PHP script available for most CMS platforms, Bad Behavior is an anti-spam tool that can also be used to stop some forms of automated content theft. Though not necessarily useful against RSS scraping, any “evil” bots that visit your sites, no matter for what reason, are likely to be caught in Bad Behavior’s net. This can stop malicious spidering and automated saving of content.

Watermark.Ws – Don’t have time to download software to watermark your images? Use Watermark.ws and add your overlays on the Web. Watermark.Ws lets you add text or an image over your copyrighted work and set the alpha level, enabling centrally-located and more powerful watermarks.

Detection

Detecting content theft, though not as desireable as prevention, is a much easier method. There are many tools that can easily detect content theft and, from there, one can easily follow up on it. Best of all, this has no impact on the legitimate readers of your site, just the those that abuse your content.

Google Alerts – Rather than searching for your own content by hand from time to time, let Google Alerts do it for you. Punch in a few unique phrases from your work, set Google Alerts to inform you when those phrases appear on the Web and relax. Best of all, it can be combined with other tools below for an even more powerful experience.

Copyscape – Based upon the Google API, Copyscape enables you to search for plagiarism of an entire page. It looks for content theft that traditional Google searches and Google Alerts may miss including sites that take only a part of your work. The free version is very limited and will only display the top ten results. Thus, it may not be practical for sites that allow some reuse of their content.

Digital Fingerprint Plugin – Maxpower’s Digital Finger Plugin for WordPress appends a unique phrase or key to the end of every post in your RSS feed. It then offers tools to help you search for that fingerprint on the Web. The plugin also works well with Google Alerts.

Technorati Watchlists – Much like Google Alerts, Techorati watchlists can be used to inform you instantly when unique keywords or a fingerprint appears on another blog. A very powerful tool for blogs.

Google Image Search – Detecting image plagiarism is very difficult, however, if you give your images unique file names you can search for that name in Google image search and locate duplicates of it that way. Most plagiarists do not bother to change image names when putting it up on their site, making it very easy to spot such infringements.

Cessation

Once plagiarism has been detected, it has to be stopped before the detection is of any use. Fortunately, there are several tools to help.

Copyfeed – A veritable swiss-army knife of content protection, Copyfeed not only adds a digital fingerprint to detect infringement, but also can be used to embed IP address of RSS scrapers in the posts andt hen, in turn, ban them from accessing the feed. For WordPress users, this plugin is practically a must-have.

Ebay VeRO Program – If your content regularly appears on Ebay, it might be worth your time to sign up for Ebay’s Verified Rights Owner Program to enable you to easily close auctions that infringe upon your rights. VeRO is easily the most powerful program of its kind on the Web and worthwhile for any Webmaster that finds a great deal of their work on Ebay.

Reporting

Sometimes, when stopping plagiarism or content theft, you can not take action yourself and, instead, have to report it to someone else. In those cases, there are many different tools and resources to help.

Domain Tools – Need to quickly find out who the host is of a dot com? Domain Tools can help. Just type in the domain and you’ll get all of the information you need about the site. Under “Server Data” you can easily locate all of the information about the server, including who operates it.

DMCA Templates – If you’re going to report a site to a U.S.-based host, you are going to need to file a DMCA notice. To do that, you’ll need a DMCA template. Fortunately, Ian McAnerin has posted templates of DMCA notices on his site, including one for each of the major search engines and a generic ISP one.

Plagiarism Today’s DMCA Contact Information – Once you know who the host is, the question becomes who to contact there. On my site, I’ve compiled a list of links to over 100 of the largest hosts, advertising networks and search engines. If you notice infringing content on a site hosted by one of these companies, just follow the link to report it. Odds are the company you need is somewhere on the list.

U.S. Copyright Office DMCA List – Similar to the list on my site, the United States Copyright Office maintains a list of DMCA contact information for various hosts. Though their list has many more companies, many major hosts have not registered and others have let their information fall out of date. However, it remains an excellent backup. This site requires Acrobat Reader or another PDF viewer to use.

Signature Extension – Instead of copying and pasting the template in every time it is needed, it is much easier to use the Signature Firefox extension and drop it in. Works great with shorter blocks of text and any template you might have use for. Functions well with Webmail systems as well as online reporting systems such as what is found at LiveJournal.

Non-Repudiation

Finally, in the event of a dispute regarding the ownership of the work, it may be important to have some evidence that the work is truly yours. With that in mind, there are some great services to help you verify the creation of your work.

Numly – Numly’s ESN system enables users to register their content, which is then fingerprinted and timestamped, and receive a special number that can be used to retrieve all of the pertinent information on it. Free accounts offer three ESNs per month. A WordPress plugin is available.

Registered Commons – From the Creative Commons team comes Registered Commons. Like Numly, RC lets you register your work, receive a certificate and an identification number and gives you a timestamp plus a fingerprint of the work. Both Numly and RC allow you to embed Creative Commons Licenses into your work. RC is completely free to use.

Archive.org – The Web Archive, which famously indexes and preserves old versions of Web pages, makes it possible to backtrack and see roughly how long a page was up. Though not as exact as an ESN or a Registered Commons registration, it can be useful in cases where the work was not registered and only a rough answer is needed.

Furl – Though not a non-repudiation service, Furl can be useful in preserving evidence against a plagiarist. A social bookmarking site, Furl also saves a cached copy of every page saved to it, this can be very useful if the plagiarist changes the page or removes the content. It is also valuable for your own records to have a file of what you did and why, just in case the issue comes up again later.

Conclusions

While technology has been kind to the plagiarist, it has been at least as kind to the author. For the first time in history and individual, without any great expense, can reach a worldwide audience and get his message out in numbers never before dreamed of.

Yes, with it comes a risk of plagiarism and content theft, but solutions are being created to mitigate that risk and streamline the process of protecting content and securing author’s rights.

It is and will continue to be a bumpy road, but if one knows how to navigate it, the ride can be more than tolerable.

No matter how much we try to normalize the experience and treatment of acne — “Everyone gets it from time to time!” — it never feels comfortable. On the contrary, every blemish seems to stand out when we look in the mirror or take a picture.

Fortunately, digital filters can help wipe away “polka dots” from the photos we send or post online. But all the filters can’t change the reality of having less-than-perfect skin.

In other words, acne stinks. It’s embarrassing. It’s frustrating. And it’s confusing. For example, why do some pimples go away after a few days whereas blackheads stay on for weeks? Why do siblings often have very different experiences with their skin? Why can some kids eat fast food without acne repercussions whereas others pay for every bite of a greasy pizza?

There aren’t any specific answers to these questions. However, they all point to a single fact. Acne affects approximately 50 million people each year and yet it remains a very individual experience. It’s one-of-a-kind on every level, which means it needs a highly personalized diagnosis and solution. Until now, it’s been difficult for many people to get the treatment they need due to a few key reasons.

Historic Roadblocks on the Journey to Blemish-Free Skin

One of the biggest issues facing acne sufferers is finding a qualified dermatologist in their area. Certainly, plenty of dermatologists are available on the market. They’re not all accepting patients, though. Plus, many have months-long waiting lists. Alternatively, their offices may not be located in convenient places.

Another concern involves perceived and real costs. When you’re a budget-conscious person, you want affordable answers to all your medical concerns. Dermatologist appointments may be expensive, especially if they’re not covered by insurance. Even if your dermatologist accepts insurance, co-pays may be daunting — and that’s before treatment ever starts.

The final challenge? Getting customized care and attention. Acne is not a one-size-fits-most phenomenon. If your first treatment plan doesn’t work you might have to wait months for a follow-up appointment. That’s just not good, particularly when you’re trying to defeat the blemish battle as quickly as possible.

Are these stumbling blocks aggravating? Yes. Can they make you feel like you’re never going to beat the pimple predicament? Sure. Don’t give up! The good news is that all those barriers can be bypassed with acne treatment provided by online healthcare service provider Nurx.

Bypassing Major Obstacles to Effectively Defeating Acne

The Nurx service is unique in the world of acne treatment. Rather than operating in a brick-and-mortar office, Nurx makes use of telehealth and digital touchpoints. No more driving to a dermatologist’s office and waiting for hours. You can stop trying to find a dermatologist that practices in your area. No more wondering if you have to give up on your dreams of a filter-free selfie.

The Nurx process begins with a request from you as a potential patient. Simply answer questions and share your health history with Nurx and upload a few photos — you can do this any time, day or night, no appointment needed. The photos are necessary to give your Nurx medical provider a sense of what type of acne you have, where it’s located, and how severe your acne is. Your provider will ask about your history with acne.

Be honest and thorough. You’ll get the best results by being completely upfront.

After receiving your digital request and images, a licensed medical provider will review your case using his or her expertise. You’ll receive a plan for treatment that fits your needs based on the details you shared and Nurx will send your medications discreetly to your door.

This type of one-on-one online care wouldn’t have been possible years ago. Today, it’s a game-changer. From stressed-out college students in dorms to busy working professionals in rural communities, anyone over the age of 18 can take advantage of Nurx. Teenagers under the age of 18 can also use Nurx with parental consent after they request a prescription. In fact, removing barriers to inclusive and equitable healthcare has become Nurx’s calling card — and it’s why the company continues to get rave reviews.

Care Options That Tackle Tough Acne

You might be curious as to how personalized acne treatment can be. Many people find success by combining several common treatment types. However, teaching you how to combine them perfectly is the role of the Nurx medical provider.

For example, some people respond well to a limited course of oral antibiotics. Remember that in the United States, you can’t buy antibiotics over the counter. You need a prescription for them. Therefore, it’s great to be able to get some antibiotics through Nurx to jumpstart your acne treatment.

Whether or not you need antibiotics, you may also be prescribed topical treatments like tretinoin, topical antibiotics or a cream containing a high percentage of benzoyl peroxide. People with periods may receive a prescription for birth control pills or spironolactone, to regulate your hormones since hormone fluctuations are an acne trigger for many people.

Ultimately, you get the advantage of a telemedicine program that’s designed to fit your lifestyle and medical concerns. And you can expect to pay an affordable price whether or not you’re covered by insurance.

Beautiful, Clearer Skin Is Just the Beginning

Although Nurx has cornered the market on fast, effective personalized acne treatment, its site tackles medical needs beyond mild, moderate, hormonal, and body acne. Consider all those other topics that can be difficult to talk about or hard to get treatment for such as reproductive health, HPV screening, and HIV PrEP medication. They’re all available through Nurx’s online system, too.

At the end of the day, acne sometimes can go away on its own after years. Why wait, though? If you can get individualized attention now without leaving your home, you’ve already removed one snag toward having clearer skin. Even if you’ve worked with a dermatologist in the past you can still take advantage of Nurx as a resource.

Loving and pampering your skin with the right treatments just got simpler. Ditch the filters and grab a device. An individualized acne solution built for you could be on its way faster than you can say “best selfie ever.”

There’s an incredible amount of money to be made from blogging. Actually, some bloggers earn more than CEOs. If you think that blogging is one of the easiest things in the world, think again. It’s one of the most challenging things you’ll ever do. Blogging is a full-time job, meaning that it requires dedication, patience, creativity, commitment, marketing skills, and more. Do you need … an assistant? Why, yes! The more popular your blog is, the more work you have to put in to keep it running. Running a blog involves more than just writing posts and hoping people will read them.

Blogging As a Full-Time Job Brings Some Unique Challenges

In case you didn’t know, it’s harder to grow a blog than a YouTube channel. You have to push your articles and grab people’s attention. Here comes one of the most heart-breaking problems: you work hard on your pieces of writing, have informative and interesting content, but your posts don’t get traffic. It’s as if search engines are hiding your blogs from potential readers. The blogging world can be fulfilling, but it takes a lot of time and effort to build a career. You’ll face many challenges during your blogging journey, so you need all the help you can get.

A virtual assistant (VA) can do a range of tasks, depending on your needs, and take the pressure of a mounting list off your mind. You’ll become a better blogger, as you can dedicate more time to core activities and improve the quality of your content. Put simply, hiring a VA frees up time to focus on things that require your skills and talents. You won’t have a hard time balancing work and life in general, and you’ll actually have a life away from the computer. If you’re not accustomed to asking for help, there’s no better time than now to start.

What Can a Virtual Assistant Do?

Well, if you must know, a virtual assistant can perform any task that doesn’t require them to be physically present. Examples include but aren’t limited to:

 • Generating trend-responsive blog post ideas. So, you sit down to write a blog post and … nothing. You have no idea whatsoever. Everyone gets stuck at times, but there’s a better way of coming up with ideas than staring at the computer screen. Brainstorm new ideas with your VA. All you need is a pair of fresh new eyes. Take turns brainstorming over chat or Skype.
 • Writing first drafts. Drafts help organise ideas into words. Even if you’ll erase entire paragraphs or rewrite them, you have a clear idea of what you want your final article to look like. If you don’t have too much time on your hands, ask your VA to write a blog post for you. Provide the requirements for the article and, when it’s completed, you can infuse the post with your voice (and make other necessary changes). Keep in mind that you’re not working with just about anyone, but a skilled professional.
 • Editing posts. Post-editing is necessary to eliminate the errors that slip through the cracks. If you want more traffic through search engines, editing is justifiable. You can streamline your workflow by delegating editing posts. Some tasks don’t need your direct involvement.
 • Social media management. Social media is vital for promotion and marketing. Put simply, you can’t grow a blog without social media. You can engage with your audience, eliminate disappointments, and learn from the people who do blogging best. The problem is that social media management requires as much time as blogging. If you don’t have a social media background, you should better pass the task to a VA. Your virtual assistant will prepare a strategy for all the platforms you’re active on.
 • Creating email newsletters. A newsletter reconnects you to your readers and builds a community around your blog. Even if people are bombarded with subscriptions these days, they’ll want to stay in touch with their favourite brands. You can write the content, while your VA can create the layout and handle automation. The result is a newsletter that looks good on all devices.

As you can see, a virtual assistant can be invaluable. Your VA can work from home, possibly in another country. Determine what tasks you want to outsource and which ones you want to keep on doing. The things you hate doing should be at the top of the list.

So, How Can a Blogger Find A Virtual Assistant?

Apparently, it’s not that difficult. If you’re part of a Facebook group, you can post an announcement. Also, you can use sites such as Upwork. A virtual assistant will most likely have a web presence where they can discuss their business. You can review the services they offer, their experience, and business details like hourly rates, refunds, contact details, and so on. The UK, in particular, has witnessed a notable rise in the number of virtual assistants. If you want to outsource, you can look a little bit further. A virtual assistant UK can free you from seemingly endless tasks. Nonetheless, take into account aspects such as data security, the time zone, cultural/language barriers, skills, and experience.

Review the applications that come in and schedule up to 4 or 5 interviews. When talking to each candidate, don’t ask just about experience and skills. Know their goals, hobbies, how they like to work, things like that. If you’re not sure what candidate might be a good fit, give your top candidates a test. People that look great on paper aren’t so great in real life. When hiring a VA, you should always know what you want. Someone with a background in office management doesn’t grasp the fine art of blogging. If you set clear expectations from the very beginning, micromanaging isn’t necessary.

Final Thoughts

If opportunities are coming in faster than you can handle, hiring a virtual assistant is a good idea. You can’t juggle too many responsibilities. The VA will take some of the stress away. Your time will be more efficiently used in activities that provide a higher dollar amount per hour. Practicing the jack of all trades is the biggest mistake you can make.

Duncan Riley> Despite having far too many other things to do this year, I promised myself I would try to put down a book and slowly but surely its coming together. No title yet, but it will be a blogging guide of sorts.

I’m not going to post every part of the process here, although if your interested or even better a publisher, please don’t hesitate in contacting me.

What I need some guideance on is the history of blogging. What follows is the first draft of Chapter 3: A Short History of Blogging. My writing style is to write to the end without editing, then go back and add and amend with the reflection of time and space, and this hasn’t had that treatment yet, and will probably be expanded and totally changed before going to press, but for those interested in the subject please enjoy, and for those who may know more of the history than please, please dont hesitate in correcting any errors in the comments of this post.
regards
Duncan.

A Short History of Blogging

The Word

The first use of the term weblog in relation to the delivery of content on a website comes from the delivery of a paper titled “Exploiting the World-Wide Web for Electronic Meeting Document Analysis and Management” by G. Raikundalia & M. Rees, two lecturers from Bond University on the Gold Coast, Australia made to a conference on August 14, 1995.

The paper discussed the use of

“a Web browser access to various meeting document information, such as minutes, tabled documents, reports and document indexes. Applications are being developed to take standard electronic meeting log files, postprocess them in a variety of ways, and generate a series of indexes and summary files. These files are formatted in HTML and exploit hyperlinks to the full in order to relate the different types of information.”

Although the paper is aimed at the recording of electronic meetings, the processes described reflect strongly on what blogs evolved into.

Interestingly the term “Weblog” is not featured on the remaining record of the paper, which is now hosted at the Charles Sturt University website, but is featured in its correct context in a Usenet post promoting the papers delivery at Bond posted on August 6, 1995.

Popular use of the term Weblog as we know it today cam from Jorn Barger of the weblog Robot Wisdom (robotwisdom.com) in December 1997.

The concept

The origins of modern blogging are often as argued about as what blogging is.

Many point to blogs as websites or webpages that provided links and comments to other pages, and its is from this basis that modern blogs emerged.

Tim Berners-Lee, father of the World Wide Web, first posted a web page in 1992 at CERN that kept a list of all new web sites as they come online.

The National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) started a What’s New list of sites in June 1993. Notably the site provided entries sorts by date and the What’s New links included commentary. This service was eventually taken over by Netscape in what became on of the more popular web sites of its time.

In January 1994, Justin Hall launches Justin’s Home Page which would later become Links from the Underground. The site included links to and reviews of other sites. Notably on 10 January 1996, Hall commences writing an online journal with dated daily entries, although each daily post is linked by through an index page. Of the journal he writes
“Some days, before I go to bed, I think about my day, and how it meshed with my life, and I write a little about what learned me.”

In February 1996, Dave Winer writes a weblog that chronicles the 24 Hours of Democracy Project.

In April, Winer launches a news page for users of Frontier Software, that goes onto became Scripting News in 1997, one of the oldest weblogs remaining on the net today. The company he heads, Userland goes on to release Radio Userland, one of the first blogging software tools.

After Jorn Barger introduced the term weblog into popular use in December 1997, blogging as we now know it continued to develop.

In November 1998, Cameron Barrett published the first list of blog sites on Camworld.

In early 1999 Peter Merholz coins the term blog after announcing he was going to pronounce web blogs as “wee-blog”, that was then shortened to blog. At this stage, a list maintened by Jesse James Garrett recorded that there were 23 known weblogs in existence.

As blogging started to grow in 1999, the first portal dedicated to listing blogs was launched, Brigitte Eaton launched the Eatonweb Portal. Eaton evaluated all submissions by a simple assessment that the site consist of dated entries, one of the criteria we use to day in identifying a blog.

In May 1999, Scott Rosenberg at Salon.com writes one of the first media articles on the emergence of weblogs and refers to the growing number of “Web Journalists”.

In August 1999, Pyra Labs, today owned by Google, launches the free Blogger blogging service, that for the first time provides an easy set of tools for anyone to set up a blog. Other services launched around the same time include Pitas and Groksoup, neither of which capture the imagination of bloggers in the same way as Blogger did.

Over the following 12 months, blogs explode, new companies and tools enter the market. The rest, as they say, is history.

By 2022, it’s been forecast that businesses will spend over $171 billion on SaaS solutions. That heralds even greater opportunities for SaaS providers, but it also means a surge in competition.

Nobody goes to the local store to buy SaaS products. We read and research about them online. Therefore, for SaaS providers, your copy is crucial. It creates the vital first impression that dictates whether potentials will convert.

In this guide, we cover simple steps to unlock the potential of your service, drive sales, and reduce churn. Let’s start by getting to know your users.

Know Your Audience

Before you can write, you need to know who you’re writing for. Gather the information that’s already out there. Read your reviews and socials feedback. Get a feel for how your users talk and their tone. Speak to them directly on Twitter. Look at ways of generating more customer reviews

Surveys

The users you already have are a goldmine of information. Usually, you’d use their feedback to improve your services, but this is also a great way of tuning in to how they think and speak. This knowledge can feed into the next step.

Create an ideal customer profile (ICP)

An ICP is a semi-fictional representation of your audience. It’s a persona that sits in the sweet spot in the middle of your demographic. Stitch together your own beautiful Frankenstein!

Include practical information such as their age, gender, and income. Where do they live and work? Just as important, include psychographic details such as:

 • Their pain points
 • Their hopes and ambitions
 • Their hobbies
 • What socials they use
 • Which influencers they follow

Get to know your ICP. Give them a name and make them your muse. They’re the screen on which you’ll project your brilliant ideas. But who else wants to talk to your ICP?

Your competitors

To stand out from the competition, you need to know them well. Analyze their tone and their marketing strategies. What do you offer that’s different? How is your voice unique?

Secondary targets

Remember when you talk to your potentials that they might not be your only target. You may have to persuade their manager or CEO as well, all of whom will have varying degrees of technical knowledge.

If you talk tech, you risk dividing your audience. Unite them by addressing their pain points and offering solutions. At the heart of this, what is the key benefit you offer? Make sure you mention it in your copy.

Identify your unique value proposition.

Identify Your Unique Value Proposition (UVP)

Before you can write, you need to know what you’re writing about. It will take time to refine your UVP, but at its core are two simple questions.

1. What are the needs of your potential?

2. How can you meet those needs?

Address both of these questions with a simple phrase using direct language. This core insight/mission statement should inform everything from your copywriting to your sales training method

You could talk about features and technical details. You might obsess about them night and day. But they won’t fascinate your potentials in the same way. You might have the most technically innovative SaaS on the market, but the details will have niche appeal to your audience.

It’s far more persuasive to explain how your service can positively affect your prospects’ lifestyles, and that’s exactly what your UVP should clarify.

Now you know how to grab your prospects’ attention, what do you want them to do?

Tell your prospects what you want them to do.

Call to Action Without Distraction

Before you can write, you need to know where you’re guiding your reader. A call to action (CTA) tells your prospects what you want them to do next. What that is will depend on where your prospects are in your sales funnel.

For example, an initial CTA might be to click on a link to your website. That’s a relatively low level of commitment. You might ask them to:

 • Subscribe to our blog

Once your prospect has seen your website or landing page, you want them to take the next step.

 • Start your free seven-day trial
 • Get your free consultation

Next, it’s time to make the onboarding step as seamless and attractive as possible.

 • Sign up today and save 10 percent
 • Subscribe now, cancel anytime

But this is not the end of the journey. The lifetime value (LTV) of your users should be key to your project timeline. Provide your converts with useful information and relevant upselling offers, such as:

 • Go premium
 • Get an extra 100 GB of cloud storage

Your prospects might not be ready to convert yet, so you could also offer a lower commitment CTA option.

 • Find out more
 • Read our testimonials

Relevant links in articles are great for SEO, but avoid them on your landing pages and in marketing materials. Don’t distract your potentials from your CTA. If you must include a link, use simple anchor text and set the link to open in a fresh tab.

All your copy should be guided by the power of your UVP and compel readers towards your CTA.

Perfect your tone of voice.

Tone of Voice

Before you can write, know how you want to sound. Your prospects will use multiple platforms and channels, often in conjunction. Your voice and tone need to be as consistent as your messages.

Your tone should be versatile enough to work on different channels, yet consistent enough to feel familiar. Your messages should be adapted to each platform in the same way images are optimized for various socials.

That applies to the copy on all media, from the scripts for your videos to the chatbots on your blog.

Richer Language Makes You Richer

There were a few ideas for that headline. “Get Rich With Rich Words” is okay, but it doesn’t end on the keyword. What I want to communicate is the idea of you, the reader, getting richer through the use of emotive writing and powerful imagery, which in turn drives sales for your SaaS.

Here’s how to do it.

Active language should be used

There’s nothing grammatically wrong with this subhead. Except that “used” is a past tense word. Therefore…

*Use active language

…is more powerful. It addresses the reader in the here-and-now and uses fewer words. This isn’t always possible, of course. Don’t force active language on your readers if it doesn’t flow.

Questions are more powerful than statements

Are questions more powerful than statements? Yes. And that’s what you want from your readers. It’s an easy goal, even if you don’t like writing. Get them to say “yes”. Then they will say yes to your CTA. For example:

 • Do you get too much SPAM in your inbox? Yes
 • Do important messages get lost or forgotten? Yes
 • Do your inbox searches return confusing results? Yes
 • Click here for a free trial. Yes

Emotional propositions are more powerful than intellectual ones

Think about your ICP. Empathize with them. You need to show a thorough understanding of their day-to-day life. Keep your language bold and simple.

For example, “Achieve the perfect work/life balance” is way more engaging and persuasive than “Unify your comms with a single user-friendly platform”. The latter describes the product perfectly but without any emotional resonance.

Of course, new and complex services will need explaining. If you’re selling business processes, you will likely have to provide a BPaaS definition

Balance positives and negatives

Use too much positive language and you’ll sound like a teleshopping presenter. Too much negative language and you’ll make your doom-and-gloom content – and by extension your software – unappealing. Fluctuate between push and pull factors to engage your readers and avoid monotony.

Keep it minimal.

Formatting

Keep your paragraphs short and your sentences shorter. Highlight important phrases with bold text. Break up copy with headings, subheads, bullet points, and numbered lists.

Landing pages

Different channels attract different demographics. Ideally, you should build a unique landing page for each. Remote employee management services, for example, could appeal to a broad church.

Tailor the language, tone, and CTA to each audience. You can gauge which are most effective using A/B testing, and the more landing pages you make, the more refined they’ll become.

The less text on a page, the more your message stands out. Don’t clutter your landing pages with information. It’s likely your potentials will skim-read your content. Therefore it’s better to split your copy across a few pages.

Testimonials

A glowing review is powerful, particularly if the brand is one your potentials recognize and trust. But just like your copy, testimonials need to be precise and specific about the benefits of your service. On the other hand, a simple “It’s great!” won’t get you very far. Try to include a broad range of clients to maximize your appeal.

Mailing lists

Like your testimonials, you should break up your database into as many different categories and demographics as possible so you can customize your message and tone. Behavioural emails can help here. The most important differentiator is between converts and prospects.

 • Prospects mailing list

Give your prospects useful tips and valuable information. Remember, you’re not simply selling your product. You’re helping your readers to achieve their ambitions and explaining how your service can help them do so.

 • Converts mailing list

Give your converts information about new features, services, or plans. Remind them about your service to prevent churn.

Keep Up!

Every aspect of your SaaS marketing strategy is subject to change. Social movements and political events alter the way people think. Buying habits continually evolve. If you keep saying the same things in the same way, eventually your message will stagnate, however powerful it is. Adopt a more malleable approach.

Writing great copy isn’t rocket science. You don’t have to dazzle your readers with technical jargon. Rather, tell relatable stories in plain English that captivate their imaginations. Less Stephen Hawking, more Stephen King.

Isn’t it time you turned your copy on its head and made it the best in the market?

In a world of TikTok videos and podcasts, it’s easy to feel like blogging has slipped to the back burner. However, it’s still one of the most effective and lucrative content mediums on the market. And in 2022, there are at least 22 reasons to start a blog.

1. It’s Easy

With drag-and-drop builders and one-click blog registration processes, the barriers to entry have never been lower. You can have a beautiful and highly-functional blog up and running within minutes.

2. It’s Affordable to Start

Unlike other businesses that require loans, investors, and complicated business plans to get started, a blog can be launched with just a few bucks and some spare time. This makes it an ideal choice for those facing challenging financial circumstances, like bankruptcy.

“Starting a traditional business after bankruptcy is almost impossible – at least from a financing perspective,” bankruptcy attorney Devin Sawdayi explains. “Since a blog requires almost no capital investment on the front end, it’s a realistic option for those who’ve been through a recent bankruptcy.”

Whether you’ve been through bankruptcy or simply don’t want to go the route of taking on thousands of dollars in debt with traditional financing, a blog provides an affordable start.

3. It Builds Your Resume

Blogging is a great resume builder. Regardless of what industry you’re in, you can always link people to blog posts to show them that you’re an effective communicator, creative person, experienced professional, etc.

4. It Can Generate Income

You aren’t going to generate thousands of dollars overnight, but blogging does have the potential to generate cash flow in multiple ways. This includes advertising, affiliate marketing, and selling your own products and services.

5. It Improves Your Writing Skills

It doesn’t matter what your skill level is today. The more you write, the better you’ll get. Blogging every day (or even every week), forces you to improve your writing skills.

6. It’s a Creative Outlet

Blogging is an excellent creative outlet – especially if your day job is monotonous. It gives you a space to just be you.

7. It Provides Flexibility

With blogging, you can publish content at home, in the office, on vacation, or when you’re sitting by the pool watching your kids swim. All you need is a laptop and an internet connection.

8. It’s All Yours

It’s your blog – nobody else owns it or can tell you what to do with it. This is a freeing thought.

9. It Opens the Doors for New Opportunities

When you have a blog, you naturally become a more attractive person/professional to others. It gives you a certain degree of clout and respect. This may lead to additional opportunities (personally, professionally, or otherwise).

10. It Helps You Build an Email List

In the marketing and business world, we say “the money is in the list.” And there’s no better way to build a list than by creating high-quality content on a blog.

11. It Cultivates Discipline

When you first launch your blog, you’ll be excited. But there will come a time when that initial jolt of energy fades and you no longer want to do it. However, this is a great opportunity to strengthen your discipline and resolve. The more you do it, the more disciplined you become. This will benefit you in other areas of your life.

12. It Teaches You New Skills

In addition to becoming a better writer, blogging teaches you new skills. This may include things like graphic design, video editing, direct response copywriting, negotiating skills, accounting, SEO, advertising, etc.

13. It Can Help You Land Your Dream Job

Depending on the type of career you have and how it aligns with your blog’s subject matter, having a blog could help you land your dream job one day. It’s a great resume booster.

14. It’s a Good Networking Tool

A blog is an excellent networking tool. It gives you an easy way to reach out to people and engage them. You’ll also find that people email and connect with you online more. Sometimes these connections turn into lucrative opportunities.

15. It Allows You to Help Others

If you have a heart for helping others, you’re going to love blogging. It gives you an outlet to educate and instruct. You’ll love reading the comments when you see people putting your advice into action and benefiting from it.

16. It Teaches Patience

No matter what anyone tells you, you’re not going to create a successful, revenue-generating blog in seven days or less. It takes months (even years) of hard work and dedication to reach a point where it generates significant cash flow. And as frustrating as it might be at times, this teaches patience.

17. It Keeps Your Memories Alive

Having a blog is like having a diary that never gets lost or destroyed. You can go back in five or 10 years and re-read your work to see exactly what you were feeling, thinking, and experiencing. It helps to keep your memories alive.

18. It Challenges You

There will be times where you have no clue what to do or how to move forward. These challenges will make you a better person.

19. It Gives You Something to Talk About

You’ll never find yourself in a situation where you can’t think about something to say. People are intrigued by blogging and will want to know more. Just casually mention that you have a blog and you’ll have plenty to discuss.

20. It Doesn’t Require Any Prior Experience

Unlike professional writing jobs that may require a huge portfolio of content, blogging has no prerequisite. Whether you’re a teenager or a retiree, you can start a blog.

21. It Reduces Job Burnout

Getting burned out at work? Having a blog gives you a creative outlet, which alleviates some of this friction. Plus, if it ever starts to make money, it could allow you to reduce the amount of time you spend working your full-time job.

22. It’s Fun

This one is pretty self-explanatory. Blogging is a whole lot of fun!

Are You Ready to Start Your Blog?

It’s never been easier to start a blog. And while there are no guarantees that you’ll be successful, there are plenty of benefits and opportunities. Make this the year that you finally take the plunge and begin blogging!

Blogging is all about producing top-notch write-ups. This is very important especially if you’re a freelance blogger because you need to have a steady stream of clients. But it’s not just about perfecting your writing skills.

You might be a great writer but still struggling to make a decent income. If that’s the case, then you might be missing your client process.

Creating excellent blog posts is one thing. Managing your clients the right way is another. How to do that? Well, read on!

Offer discounts

Offering discounts make potential clients choose you because of your service’s affordability. But this doesn’t mean that you’re getting the rough end of the deal. Even though you’re offering cheaper services, you still get more clients and more money in the end.

One way to do this is by offering quantity discounts. The more blog posts your client orders, the more significant discount they get. You want to stand out because it’s a competitive world out there. Offering discounts help you with just that.

Showcase your testimonials

You’ll look good if your clients see what people think about you. Put your previous client’s testimonials on your blog. It lets your potential clients know what to expect from you. Good reviews are the foundation of trust. And when they trust you, they’re most likely to hire you. Just make sure that the testimonials are from real people. You can also include their name and profession beside their testimony.

Use screenshots and stats on your blog

Another cool way to give more value to your clients is by presenting them with reliable facts. There are times when words can’t fully explain what you’re trying to point out. Good thing there are screenshots. This help because it can efficiently relay the message to your readers.

This is very useful if you’ve got a tutorial blog full of technical instructions. Putting statistics also backs up your blog. It supports the ideas you’ve presented, making it look legitimate and factual. Just be sure that the stats are from a reputable source.

Ask your clients questions

What usually happens when negotiating with a new client is we immediately say yes. We don’t bother asking questions because we want to look confident and able. That helps at the beginning. But you’re just increasing the risk for complications later on.

You won’t have enough information to do the job properly. You’re also likely to get lost as you go deeper into the project. What would you do when that happens? You’re going to get back to the client and ask them things you should’ve known in the first place. Not only will you look unprofessional, but you’ve just wasted time. Ask as many questions as you can. It’s the recipe for becoming a great blogger.

Provide an easy way to receive payments (without being a brat)

You won’t be a freelance blogger if you don’t do it for a living. As obvious as it may sound, that reality is what keeps your career intact. That’s why you need to make sure that the payment process is easy.

It shouldn’t be a hassle for your client to pay you, and for you to receive the money. You can do this by using an invoice template generator like HubSpot’s. This will make it easier for you to notify your client about the payment. It’ll also help you receive the payments in time.

Promote their posts

Being a freelance blogger isn’t all about the writing. It’s also about the sharing. Your blog posts would be useless if no one reads it. When you’re through writing, you want to share it out with the world. There are lots of ways to do that. Working on your email marketing, social media, and SEO campaign are some of them. You can also use JustReachout to maximize your reach.

Conclusion

Income stability is an issue most freelance bloggers face. But with the help of these tips, there’s no doubt you’ll get over this common problem. Also remember that reputation, consistency, and continuous improvement are the pillars of being a great blogger. Keep these in your mind, and you’ll surely reach greater heights in no time.

We all know the line that says “Kids say the darndest things”, right? A lot of times, especially now, extraordinary kid bloggers have the most profound content on the internet. Some kids start blogging as an English course requirement in school and simply fell in love with blogging. Others, like Greta Thunberg, want their advocacies and voices heard. Nonetheless, reading blogs written by children is an exciting experience.

If you have kids that are interested to blog, or you are a young blogger who wants to be inspired, here extraordinary kid bloggers we can all learn from:

Coco, 10, Fashion, Instagram (@coco_pinkprincess)

Can you imagine a 10-year-old luxury name brands like Moncler, Gucci, MCM, and others? Coco is one of the fiercest fashion “kidfluencers” on the planet. You can never think of any kid so fabulous as her, it’s so adorable! She has taken Instagram gaming to the next level donning fabulous luxury brands in every photo. Any luxury fashion you can only imagine buying, she has already worn it on her Instagram. Is she the next Anna Wintour? Maybe!

Any blogger will learn a thing or two from our dear Coco. The way she poses for her photos – professional! It’s as if the photos were taken from a fashion magazine. And let us talk about the background selection, too. Besides the clothes, there is texture, color, and quirkiness in the backgrounds.

If we want to be in the fashion blogging industry, we don’t really have to wear all luxury. But, like Coo, let go, be creative, and dress up.

Currently, she has more than 600k followers. On her Instagram bio, it is clearly stated that her Instagram page is run by her family.

Ryan, 8, Kid Content, YouTube (@Ryan’sWorld)

No matter how hard we try, we cannot shield away our children from the influence of social media and the internet. This is why parents are thankful for the presence of kid-friendly content that is educational and safe for children’s entertainment. This is the kind of content Ryan, aged 8, has on his YouTube channel. If you are also a young blogger, you can also ask your parents to create content of the same themes as his.

He and his parents perform simple, yet cool, science experiments for their followers. There are also animated episodes that are entertaining for the audience. Toy unboxings and challenges are highly watched as well. There is even a series created by his mom and dad. All is fun and play in Ryan’s World making him totally relatable to his audience.

What we can learn from Ryan’s World is that creating content online is a family affair. The teamwork among Ryan, his mom, and his dad is what makes the content worthwhile and safe to watch. Currently, he has 36M subscribers on YouTube, one of the highest following for kid content on the platform.

Ethan, 15, Gaming, YouTube (@EthanGamer)

Imagine being 15 and have billions of views on your account? This young lad did just that. He is well-known for streaming his Roblox gaming. He has unboxings, challenges, and even vlogs. Through the years that he (and originally his parents) ran his YouTube channel, he has been invited to many awards shows including the Nickelodeon Kid’s Choice Awards.

If there is anything we can learn from Ethan, it is to create content for our own enjoyment. When his YouTube video was affected by the COPPA Rules in 2020, he continued to create content because he enjoys it.

He currently has around 3 Million subscribers and almost three billion views.

Sam, Children’s Literature, WordPress, (ChildtasticBooks.Wordpress)

Nowadays, we rarely see kids with written blogs. Most of the younger bloggers today prefer social media as their platform. This is understandable, a lot of their target audiences are scrolling through these platforms more. It is absolutely refreshing to see a website created by a kid and her mom.

Sam and her mom read and review children’s books for fun. They write out their insights on their website to share with their audience. You could see how eloquent young Sam is in writing their book reviews. If you are thinking of creating your own website or blog, Childtastic books prove that it is possible.

Alyssa, 20, Educational, Tiktok, (@nasablueberry1)

Yeah, 20 is not really a kid anymore. But Alyssa Carson’s TikTok page shows how your love and passion for something could lead to creating good content. She has a lot of fun trivia about outer space and science that her content is just really interesting to watch.

If you are a young blogger who is so, very passionate about something, you can use social media platforms to share it. People with the same passion would surely take notice. And, those who like to learn new things would also surely take notice. Just look at Alyssa and her 117.3K followers on TikTok.

A little background on blogs by children authors

We all have the same question – is it legal for children to post content and create blogs online? The simple answer is, yes but there is a minimum age. On average, the most acceptable age for bloggers to control their own blogs would be 13. Other than that, parental consent (and control) is a requirement. Especially now that children may be exposed to a nasty and dangerous environment online, both parental presence and management really are essential for blogging success. Parents must be present to monitor posts, following, and comments.

So, if you are a young blogger under the age of 13, you might want your mom and dad to be 100% in support of you. Or, if you are a parent of a young blogger, be sure to provide at least a bubble of protection for your children.

If you go on YouTube, you will notice that lots of YouTubers own a Tesla. Out of all the electric vehicle make and models all over the world, Tesla is pretty much a favorite in the U.S. What it promises for sustainability and “green energy”, does not compromise its performance. Although it is quite expensive, influencers still buy them making them also an “influencer favorite”. Owning a Tesla has its pros and cons. But as we could see from influencers, the benefits outweigh its disadvantages.

Why do influencers love Teslas anyway?

Tesla is one of the highly coveted cars today

Influencers like to buy Teslas because the car has a lot to offer. Its performance, acceleration, and battery range are among its most appealing features. This is on top of its sleek styling and alluring designs. Based on surveys and interviews, EV owners become more confident in purchasing an electric vehicle, a hybrid, or a Tesla if they know another person who owns one. This is because they could see that they truly work and how great the car is. This way, Tesla has a lot of influencers to thank. Since people see influencers owning Teslas and almost feel like experiencing a Tesla themselves, followers tend to want to buy one for themselves as well.

Tesla does not spend on advertisement

Only one reason why – it simply does not need to. Not all influencers are paid to advertise or own a Tesla. These people buy these cars on their own accord. However, influencers are willing to flex them on their content for free because it is a one-stop-shop for everything. You would not need to speak to a third-party company for sales, financing, service, charging, and more. The car owner simply needs to call Tesla for a service, for accessories, and all that.

Best Charging time across EVs for very busy influencers

It can take anywhere between an hour up to 12 hours to completely charge a Tesla. Comparatively, the tesla charge time is already more competitive compared to other EVs. Tesla is most famous for its “fast charging” system which is, of course, what buyers would want in an EV. People want cars that are instantly charged up. Since Tesla has one of the fastest charging times, they prefer it over other brands.

Elon Musk is the ultimate CEO Influencer

A lot of bloggers and influencers look up to Musk as an inspiration not only as an entrepreneur but also as an influencer. Just by watching how influential the man is on social media, influencers can surely learn a thing or two on how he entertains his followers.

Safe to drive, even during recording

Content creators usually have busy schedules with filled appointments throughout the day. They would have to drive around and create content at the same time. This means, a lot of vloggers, YouTubers, or influencers, create content and take videos even while they are driving. It is highly discouraged to do anything else while driving, especially take videos of yourself. This makes Tesla, with its self-driving mode, the safest car to drive.

Charge almost anywhere for influencers always traveling

If you are a content creator, especially if you are a travel and lifestyle blogger, you would want an electric car you are sure you could bring anywhere. There are roughly 25,000 Tesla Superchargers in the world, thousands of which are in the U.S. alone. You can go almost anywhere around the U.S. and you will surely find a charging station for your Tesla. Whether or not you are an influencer, a Tesla is one of the most convenient EVs to have.

BONUS: It is a “flex” car

Tesla, even its cheapest model, is on the expensive side and not a lot of people easily own one. The mortgage could also be overwhelming and not something simply 9-to-5 people would be confident to buy. This makes Tesla a super “flex” car, a lot of influencers buy it just to flex it. Owning it is a ‘rich kid’ privilege. Owning one may mean you “you’ve made it”.
